{"id":21610,"date":"2013-08-29T18:20:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-29T17:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2013\/08\/29\/heat-dust-and-tears-on-day-two-of-world-champs-r899\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T12:24:38","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T12:24:38","slug":"heat-dust-and-tears-on-day-two-of-world-champs-r899","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/heat-dust-and-tears-on-day-two-of-world-champs-r899\/","title":{"rendered":"Heat, dust and tears on day two of World Champs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Day two of competition at the UCI MTB &amp; Trials will be remembered by all for the testing conditions of scorching temperatures, strong winds and engulfing dust as well as the tears of joy and sorrow shed by many of the mountain biking community.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-10224700-1377800630.jpg\" data-fileid=\"260293\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"260293\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"2013E4GreggBrown.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-10224700-1377800630.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#696969\"><span style=\"font-size:12px\"><em>South Africa&#8217;s junior Gregg Brown soars during the junior men&#8217;s downhill timed run at the UCI MTB and Trials World Championships 2013 at Cascades MTB Park in Pietermaritzburg.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#696969\"><span style=\"font-size:12px\"><em>Photo: Darren Goddard\/Gameplan Media<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The day got underway with the junior women\u2019s cross country race which saw Switzerland\u2019s Alessandra Keller power to a commanding victory having worked her way through the field after a poor start, finishing ahead of Italy\u2019s Emilie Collomb and Germany\u2019s Sarah Bauer after European champ and pre-race favourite Malene Degn (Denmark) withdrew shortly after the start after a shunt from behind left her with a broken gear cable.<\/p>\n<p>The junior men\u2019s race was another prime example of complete and utter dominance as Germany\u2019s Lukas Bauer destroyed the rest of the field to claim the gold medal ahead of Canada\u2019s Peter Disera and Italy\u2019s Gioele Bertolini \u2013 the young star\u2019s second medal in two days after he formed part of the successful Italian Cross Country Relay Team on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-75566400-1377800632.jpg\" data-fileid=\"260294\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"260294\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"2013E4GillesCoustellier.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-75566400-1377800632.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#696969\"><span style=\"font-size:12px\"><em>Gilles Coustellier was one of three Frenchmen to reign supreme in the Elite Men&#8217;s 26&#8243; Qualifying round on Thursday at the UCI MTB and Trials World Championships 2013 at Cascades MTB Park in Pietermaritzburg.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#696969\"><span style=\"font-size:12px\"><em>Photo: Darren Goddard\/Gameplan Media<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thursday also saw the second day of Trials qualification unfold on the popular Cascades course with both the junior men\u2019s 26\u201d and the elite men\u2019s 26\u201d rounds taking place. The action then shifts from the downhill course to the Trials as the Elite Women (10h00-12h30 battle it out for top honours.<\/p>\n<p>The first cross country action of the day will see the highly anticipated under 23 women\u2019s clash get underway at 13h00 and will be followed by the equivalent men\u2019s clash at 15h15.<\/p>\n<p>The late afternoon\u2019s action will see the Junior Men\u2019s 20\u201d Trials final take place from 16h00-17h30 before the first floodlit event of the contest, the Elite Men\u2019s 20\u201d Trials final, takes place from 18h00-19h30.<\/p>\n<p>The UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships takes place at Cascades MTB Park in Pietermaritzburg from 26 August to 1 September 2013.
