The Eritrean rider was part of an escape group that survived the day and outfoxed his rivals at the finish.<\/p>\n<div style=\"max-width:400px;\">\n<a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-41808-0-30972000-1389943625.jpg\" data-fileid=\"310713\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"310713\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-41808-0-30972000-1389943625.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-41808-0-30972000-1389943625.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>The move formed part of the team\u2019s strategy to place a rider in the breakaway every day. Linus Gerdemann and Adrien Niyonshuti made the opening day\u2019s escape while Songezo Jim went on the offensive during stage two and three.<\/p>\n<p>Stage 4 was the longest stage of the race over 190 kilometres from Lambarene To Mouila.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a really good group in the breakaway and in the last hour it looked like we were going to stay away,\u201d a smiling Debesay said after coming off the podium. \u201cI started thinking about the finish and didn\u2019t want to wait for the sprint. I attacked with 2 kilometres to go and stayed away. I\u2019m really happy for myself and for the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sports director Kevin Campbell expressed his praise for Debesay: \u201cWe knew he could do it despite being with good riders in the break. He is a natural racer and has great instincts during a race. He was hungry for success here and this isn\u2019t a surprise at all. We knew a break would stay away eventually and we\u2019ve put a rider there for this very reason. I\u2019m really happy for him,\u201d Campbell concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The overall standings remained the same with Gerdemann holding onto his fourth place in the classification.
