The inaugural Ultimate Sports Nutrition (USN) MTB Cup race of the season took place this past Saturday, 18 January 2014. There was an air of anticipation as one of the country\u2019s most popular mountain bike series kicked off.<\/p>\n

From all accounts, the event was highly enjoyable for all participants and has certainly set the tone and expectation for this year\u2019s USN MTB Series. Cyclists of all ages, both regular, and those new to the race, turned up at The Big Red Barn in Midrand, Gauteng, ready to prove that they had what it took to race amongst the best of the best.<\/p>\n

With last year\u2019s final race ending on a high note, there was much excitement filling the early morning Jozi air. Previous men\u2019s champion Arno Du Toit once again took centre stage as he raced against many new hopefuls on the spectacular routes the venue has to offer.<\/p>\n

Andrew Grobler, Race Director and Event Organiser says, \u201cWe are thoroughly pleased with the overall outcome of this race. The standards have now been set for the rest of the season, and the atmosphere was electric with riders clearly wanting to get their game on this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Young and aspiring riders were also encouraged to take part in the free kiddies\u2019 race, further adding to the family orientated ambiance.<\/p>\n

As the races continued throughout the day, it become clear that cyclists not only appreciated the beautiful scenery Big Red Barn had to offer, but could also make the most of the exciting and challenging terrains set in place.<\/p>\n

1200 cyclists in total completed the race in challenging hot weather, taking part in either the 50km, 30km or 10km races.<\/p>\n

The overall winners of the USN MTB Cup #1 2014 are:<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s winners<\/strong><\/p>\n

50km: <\/strong>Arno du Toit<\/p>\n

30km: <\/strong>Brandon van der Berg<\/p>\n

10km: <\/strong>Nathan Badenhorst<\/p>\n

Ladies winners<\/strong><\/p>\n

50km: <\/strong>Janine King<\/p>\n

30km: <\/strong>Genevieve van Coller<\/p>\n

10km: <\/strong>Lauriesian Brett<\/p>\n
