Photo: Capcha<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dougall took the yellow jersey for the MTN-Qhubeka feeder team in the individual time-trial to the top of Helshoogte on day one and did not relinquish it again throughout the three remaining road stages.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed the overall honours in 9:53:03, a comfortable 45 seconds clear of Namibia\u2019s Till Drobisch (WCC Africa). Former Tour of Egypt winner Waylon Woolcock (Cannondale-Blend) placed third in 9:54:14.<\/p>\n<p>Woolcock\u2019s teammate Darren Lill and Kevin Evans (FedGroup-Itec) split the peloton to pieces when they launched an attack at the base of the 7km climb to the mountain-top finish. Photo: Capcha<\/span><\/p>\n<p>James Tennant (Giant) hung on tenaciously to finish eight seconds behind the former national road champion, with Jayde Julius (Bonitas) a further eight seconds adrift. Lill \u2013 who also claimed the king of the mountains jersey \u2013 said it had been a good, challenging tour for his team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately I missed the move yesterday so we couldn\u2019t take the overall, but I don\u2019t think we can be unhappy with two out of four stage wins and a second place in the time-trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dougall said the opening stage, in which he established a 39-second lead, had suited his strengths and that his team had protected him and helped extend his advantage on the hillier road stages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started today\u2019s climb on third wheel and that was all thanks to my team who kept me out of trouble for the preceding 20km.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe always knew Darren would be so strong. He\u2019s an incredible rider, so we were lucky we didn\u2019t have to chase him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Franschhoek local and international track star Nolan Hoffman (Abantu) dominated the sprint hotspots to claim the green jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s leader Juanita Venter (Bestmed-ASG) was dropped on the climb, which ultimately led to her losing the yellow jersey and a podium spot after an impressive three days.<\/p>\n<p>Swiss dark horse Ariane Kleinhans (RE:CM) initiated a series of attacks at the bottom of the pass to finish second on the day and steal a surprise three-second overall victory in 9:42:01. She crossed the line in 3:19:58, a mere 18 seconds behind stage winner and overall runner-up Lise Olivier (VeloLife).<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-49326900-1394222884.jpg\" data-fileid=\"331550\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"331550\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-2-0-49326900-1394222884.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-49326900-1394222884.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">An-Li Kachelhoffer (Esmero-Activate Drinks), Ariane Kleinhans (RE:CM) and Lise Olivier (VeloLife) were the podium finishers in the four-day Bestmed Tour de Boland, presented by ASG, that finished on Friday. Photo: Capcha<\/span><\/p>\n<p>An-Li Kachelhoffer (Esmero-Activate Drinks) was third on the day in 3:20:32 to complete the overall podium in 9:43:25.<\/p>\n<p>Mountain biker Kleinhans, who won the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum mountain bike challenge recently, said she had found it much more difficult to get away on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew I had to attack early to make as much time on Juanita as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI attacked in Franschhoek but then Lisa responded; she\u2019s got that kick that I just couldn\u2019t match.
