With the annual Easter road safety chaos still top-of-mind, safe cycling zones are growing in numbers. The RideFree Bike Park at Avianto Trails in Muldersdrift, which opens this weekend (Sunday 4th May), has received Tracker\u2019s stamp of safety.<\/p>\n

It is the second safe cycling zone created by the vehicle and fleet services leader this year. The planned roll out of others across the country is proof of Tracker\u2019s commitment to safer cycling through its RideFree initiative.<\/p>\n

Tracker\u2019s investment includes an upgrade to the 30kms of trails at Avianto Trails as well as the addition of on-site medics, a bike wash facility and cycle clinics. At just R25 entry Avianto offers a great option for riders of all levels to get out and about. There are three routes adding something different to all.<\/p>\n

Routes offer variety<\/h2>\n

As a beginner the 6km green loop offers a great introduction to mountain biking and consists of mostly jeep track and dirt roads. The blue intermediate loop is just over 30km and features some challenging sections with 80% single-track and tougher climbs. Unique to the blue trail is an old train track and tunnel which is a great feature.<\/p>\n

Off the blue loop riders have the option of taking the more advanced black sections, which are built for skilled riders. Additionally, there is a 2,5km kiddie\u2019s loop, which doesn\u2019t cross any roads.<\/p>\n

Richard Beswick, Avianto Trails\u2019 manager, \u201cDon\u2019t be fooled by the relatively short distance, it is a testing \u201creal\u201d MTB trail that will test your skills and fitness levels. New blue and black sections are continually added to the trails thanks to Tracker. As skill levels and fitness increase more sections can be explored, offering flexibility and variety.\u201d<\/p>\n

With many looking to escape our dangerous roads the option of going for a ride in a safe zone is appealing. Especially when facilities such as these are so accessible to many Gautengers. With safety taken care of, future Cape Epic winners can be unearthed and the next generation can get a taste of this awesome sport.<\/p>\n

Off the bike<\/h2>\n

There is no better setting for a MTB trail in Gauteng. The exclusive Avianto clubhouse offers a pool, changing rooms and showers, tennis courts, a kiddies play area, a fully licensed bar and braai facilities. Picnics by the river are also welcomed.<\/p>\n

Operating Times<\/h2>\n

The Avianto clubhouse is open from 6am -2pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. After hours and during the week riders can purchase their trail bands from Avianto\u2019s main reception on the other side of the river from the clubhouse.<\/p>\n
