Last year, Johns defended his World Number 2 at the 2013 UCI BMX World Champs in the 20\u201d class in July, plus he claimed World Number 2 in the Cruiser class as well.<\/p>\n<p>Johns has raced BMX bicycles since the young age of four. The 33-year-old first raced as an Elite in 1997, when he was 17-years-old, and has been crowned National Champion on \u201cnumerous occasions\u201d. This is the ninth time that he is representing his country at the BMX World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>While he still races in the 30-and-over category, Johns is also a dedicated coach for many of the up-and-coming youngsters at Giba Gorge, near Pinetown in KwaZulu-Natal.<\/p>\n<p>The BMX World Championship racing continues through to Sunday 27 July.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South African BMX rider and coach, Tyrone Johns, claimed the Challenge class 30+ category World Championship title in sheer dominance at the 2014 UCI BMX World Championships, currently underway at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, last night.
