The 4th East Rand to East Coast Charity Cycle Tour of course.

This year’s charity cycle tour, which was started in 2010 by avid cyclist Julian Bryant, and his wife Pascale, will begin the 605 kilometre journey from Carnival City, Brakpan to St. Lucia on the east coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal. In true philanthropic spirit, riders entering this four day tour, pay for their “place to pace” and each rider is also required to raise funds, while race organisers, fondly known as Jules and Posh, secure sponsorships for the charity organisations who will receive a third each of monies raised.

Julian recently mentioned that the tour has successfully raised over R250 000 in the last three events and this year, has set a target of R100 000; which the organisations participating are delightfully anticipating. Funds raised are scheduled for transfer in early 2015.

On Saturday, 13th December, riders will fill their anxious and excited tummies with a delicious breakfast, sponsored and hosted by Carnival City, The Society for Animals in Distress will be there to send riders off at 07h00, who will begin their journey of sights and sounds of a trip incorporating stop-overs in Standerton, Vryheid & Hluluwe, and finishing off for a dip in the sea and much needed rest in St. Lucia.

The tour consists of 25 riders and 5 crew members, including mechanics and masseurs, and Jules leading the group all the way. If you or your company would like to contribute towards this tour and help this group of weekend, welfare warriors reach their fundraising target, please contact Posh on 082 461 0869 or email hedgeandhog@icon.co.za.

Sponsors for 2014 are still being confirmed but there is no doubt that Cargo Motors, Coca-Cola, QED, Collin Jennings & Associates, Eastern Hydraulics & Hedge & Hog Design will be involved again, with a few more being added to the list. These sponsors ensure that many ‘hard costs’ are picked up to ensure that rider costs are contained & that donations for the charities are as substantial as possible.

Once again, The Society for Animals in Distress are thrilled to be one of the recipients of funds raised and all proceeds from the tour will be allocated into areas benefitting the animals and their owners serviced daily.

For more information about the Society for Animals in Distress, visit their website: www.animalsindistress.org.za “Empowering and Educating Communities; through the Healing and Welfare of their Animals”.

The Society for Animals in Distress on Facebook.

What do The Society for Animals in Distress, Care for Wild, Thembalami Home for the Aged and St. Lukes Children’s Home have in common?
