Wristbands will be handed out to female riders to promote the commission and women in cycling during the race.

The support of women in cycling includes riders at all levels of the sport across all disciplines, women who make a living out of cycling, women volunteering their time towards the sport as well as those sponsors who support our women cyclists.

The Women’s Commission will also be active at the Unite4Mandela 67km cycle race in Tshwane on 22 November. Wearing something purple will show your support towards uniting women in cycling, and what better way to come together for a cause than at an event with the main purpose of celebrating the life of Mandela.

Within 24 hours, the Women’s Commission new Facebook page received more than 300 likes last week. “We think that this shows the need out there for a community of female cyclists and the potential such a community has when the women involved come together and pool their resources,” said Olivier.

“I was elected as Director of the Women’s Commission a few months ago,” continued Olivier. “Together with Annemie Kruger and Ashleigh Pasio, both part of the Cycling South Africa Rider Commission, we have decided on a structure we believe will be most effective in dealing with relevant topics. We are now looking to fill the remaining spots on the commission. There is a position open for each of the cycling disciplines (mountain bike, road, track, BMX and Para-cycling).

“We are also looking for people with specific expertise, which includes a coach, race organiser, official, press correspondent and a business-minded person.” Please note that all of these posts are volunteer positions.

Interested in joining the Women’s Commission?
