{"id":20720,"date":"2014-11-20T07:40:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-20T07:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2014\/11\/20\/mountain-splendour-rounds-out-riveting-roag-series-r1828\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T11:26:51","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T11:26:51","slug":"mountain-splendour-rounds-out-riveting-roag-series-r1828","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/mountain-splendour-rounds-out-riveting-roag-series-r1828\/","title":{"rendered":"Mountain Splendour rounds out riveting ROAG Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the title all but wrapped up going into the final showdown of the ever popular Quattro ROAG Series at the Mountain Splendour Mania, Andrew Hill stamped his authority on the men\u2019s series title race with victory in the 40km half marathon while Jeannie Dreyer claimed the women\u2019s series spoils despite Natalie Bergstrom clinching the final race win.<\/p>\n<div style=\"\">\n<br \/><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-93499000-1416469091.jpg\" data-fileid=\"447541\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"447541\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-93499000-1416469091.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-93499000-1416469091.jpg\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">It was TIB Insurance&#8217;s Andrew Hill who wrapped up his hat-trick of Quattro ROAG Series on Sunday at the Mountain Splendour Mania even though he had already won the series before he started the race in the Central Drakensberg over the weekend. \/\/ Image: QuickPix\/ Gameplan Media.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Hill it was his second win of the series but he has been consistently good throughout which saw him open up an unassailable lead going into the Mountain Splendour.<\/p>\n<p>His series spoils secure beforehand saw the TIB Insurance rider\u2019s motivation levels down a touch from normal but he wasn\u2019t ever going to take the Central Drakensberg race lightly and showed his prowess as he crossed the line just ahead of fierce competitor Tyronne White (Thule) with Joshua Nelson coming in third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had a good tussle up front with Tyronne White the whole way and it was nice to be able to walk away with the win in the end,\u201d Hill said after the race. \u201cIt was a little tough getting motivated for this one having already clinched the Quattro ROAG Series title but it was nice to finish things off with another win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was a hat-trick of series wins for the Hillcrest resident, a pleasing result for the series fan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been awesome to come back and win the series three years in a row,\u201d an elated Hill added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been great to see how the series has grown over the past three years and the way in which the series has raised the profile of mountain biking in KZN and pushed things right from the juniors all the way up to us at the top has been superb.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s race was a much tighter affair going into the final showdown with USN\/Hi-TEC\u2019s Jeannie Dreyer leading the standings with Jowett&#8217;s Cycles Natalie Bergstrom snapping at her heals.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-76117100-1416469098.jpg\" data-fileid=\"447544\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"447544\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-76117100-1416469098.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-76117100-1416469098.jpg\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Even though she managed to pull off a win at the 2014 Mountain Splendour Mania in the Central Drakensberg Natalie Bergstrom (Jowett&#8217;s Cycles) she had to claim the runner-up prize in the overall Quattro ROAG Series with the overall title going to USN\/Hi-TEC&#8217;s Jeannie Dreyer &#8211; who was not present at the final race of the series on Sunday. \/\/ Image: QuickPix\/ Gameplan Media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dreyer was forced to withdraw from the race at the eleventh hour due to her young son becoming ill which meant that Bergstrom had a chance to narrow the gap on Dreyer.<\/p>\n<p>Despite finishing ahead of Mr Price Cycling\u2019s Isabel Moolman and claiming the top step of the podium on the day, Bergstrom\u2019s efforts just weren\u2019t enough to pip Dreyer to the overall series title.<\/p>\n<p>With six results counting towards the final tally, Dreyer\u2019s four race wins and two second places handed her the title ahead of Bergstrom who ended 26 points in arrears and 147 points ahead of Moolman in third.<\/p>\n<p>The 2014 Quattro ROAG Series Awards Dinner takes place on 22 November at the Shalwyn Venue &amp; Conference Centre in the Tala Valley where the overall prize money of R22 000 for both men\u2019s and women\u2019s winners \u2013 the largest prize purse in a mountain biking series in South Africa \u2013 will be presented.<\/p>\n<p>Second and third overall also stand in line to win fantastic prize money while all age categories will be recognised &amp;
