South African Schools Cycling (SASC) President, Deon Steyn, presented a mountain bike commissaire\u2019s course in Bloemfontein on Saturday 24 January.<\/p>\n

Steyn, a qualified UCI MTB commissaire, has recognised that there is a shortage of MTB commissaires in some of the provinces, with the Free State and North West provinces not having any.<\/p>\n

The course, which was funded by Cycling SA through the Technical Commission, welcomed 11 candidates who went through the first step of three to becoming a qualified commissaire.<\/p>\n

Steyn said: \u201cCandidates start off with theory training, which is followed by the practical element in the next session, at which point they can operate as a provincial commissaire. They then write further exams to qualify for national events.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a great shortage of mountain bike commissaires in some provinces and we are looking at teaching those who might be interested, to further develop this important aspect of the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to the MTB commissaire\u2019s course, Steyn also presented a school commissaire\u2019s course and a team manager\u2019s for school kids course for the candidates, which was well received.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
