South African Team RECM rider, James Reid, now has three consecutive stage wins to his name, but today\u2019s victory was far from easy after he broke a wheel spoke on the first descent of the stage.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-89378700-1422852759.jpg\" data-fileid=\"479199\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"479199\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-89378700-1422852759.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-89378700-1422852759.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Team TIB Insurance rider, Andrew Hill (RSA), tried to take advantage of Reid\u2019s misfortune, but a wandering goat put a stop to what might have been. Hill\u2019s collision ended with a broken front wheel and an early retirement, leaving Kevin Evans (RSA) and his compatriot Max Knox (RSA) to battle it out for second place &#8211; there is currently only 1 second separating them in the overall classification of this UCI classified stage race.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"w-full aspect-video\">\n<div><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/io0blw7C7dI?feature=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Previous Cape Epic winner, Catherine Williamson (GBR), followed yesterday\u2019s stunning performance with another stage win. She now leads the Open Female Category by a staggering 14 minutes 31 seconds, ahead of Hungarian Champion Eszter Dosa (HUN).<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-93685400-1422852747.jpg\" data-fileid=\"479195\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"479195\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-93685400-1422852747.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-93685400-1422852747.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although disappointed with today\u2019s result, Andrew Hill, has found the Trans Hajar Mountain Bike Stage Race a fantastic adventure,<\/p>\n<div class=\"pullquote\">\n\u201cIt\u2019s been an amazing experience &#8211; the stage racing calendar in South Africa is really saturated and I think around the world guys are really upping their game in terms of what they can offer. The Trans Hajar in Oman has given us everything and more \u2013 the vistas, the terrain, the rocks, the dust, the thorn trees and the goats! Once they had completed the mountain assault it was straight downhill on a specially designed and particularly technical single-track section of hard rock, before a flat section through the plantations and abandoned villages of Al Hamra guided them towards a final 410m climb and quick descent to the finish line and Race Village.<\/p>\n<p>Now with an overall lead of 7 minutes 8 seconds James Reid will be looking to build on this gap as the international field of pro and amateur riders takes on the penultimate stage tomorrow with steep gradient climbs of 10% &#8211; 20%.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-81738000-1422852757.jpg\" data-fileid=\"479198\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"479198\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-81738000-1422852757.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-81738000-1422852757.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Written and Video Race Reports will be distributed at the end of each day\u2019s racing.
