{"id":20413,"date":"2015-03-05T08:35:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-05T08:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/03\/05\/nel-time-trials-to-tour-de-boland-lead-r2141\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T11:13:52","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T11:13:52","slug":"nel-time-trials-to-tour-de-boland-lead-r2141","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/nel-time-trials-to-tour-de-boland-lead-r2141\/","title":{"rendered":"Nel time-trials to Tour de Boland lead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australian sprinter Malcolm Rudolph pushed a big gear into a brisk headwind to claim the time-trial stage on day three of the Bestmed Tour de Boland, presented by Pinarello, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Rudolph, riding in the colours of Drapac, blitzed into the finish at Tulbagh to take the 30km stage from Ceres in a time of 37:17, as the lead changed hands for the third consecutive day.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-79626400-1425544717.jpg\" data-fileid=\"495049\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"495049\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-2-0-79626400-1425544717.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-79626400-1425544717.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Drapac\u2019s Malcolm Rudolph won the time-trial on the third day of the Bestmed Tour de Boland, presented by Pinarello, on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Photo: Warren Elsom\/Capcha<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bonitas\u2019s JC Nel clocked the second fastest time of the day (38:08), with Peter Koning rounding out the podium for Drapac (38:20).<\/p>\n<p>Rudolph\u2019s teammate and stage two winner Dylan Girdlestone finished just outside the top three, relinquishing the yellow jersey to Nel in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The Bonitas all-rounder now leads the general classification with a combined time of 6:47:52. Girdlestone (6:47:57) and teammate Peter Koning (6:48:02) are second and third respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Nel said the blustery conditions had been a major factor but he was delighted to reclaim the yellow jersey for his team after Herman Fouch\u00e9 opened their tally on stage one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was our designated guy to lead the tour after the time-trial stage, so I\u2019m glad I was able to pull it off,\u201d said Nel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team has done a superb job of looking after me for the whole tour and keeping me fresh for the time-trial, so I\u2019m happy that I could give it back and deliver for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old Johannesburg resident said the stage was now set for a closely contested tour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a great race to watch and I think it\u2019s going to be a great fight all the way to Paarl.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Brisbane native Rudolph, the race was far from over.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got beaten on the first stage so we were a bit disappointed with that.
