<\/a><\/p>\nThe tour consists of three main events \u2013 mountain bike races, road races and children\u2019s races. The MTB event is one of the biggest in southern Africa and includes outstanding cycling routes through the Knysna forest. The 80 km and 50 km MTB races are official premier seeding events of the 2016 Cape Town Cycle Tour.<\/p>\n
There are four different MTB races in total for varying technical abilities – 80 km, 50 km, 30 km and 15 km, and routes include access to privately owned sections of property that are usually closed to the public.<\/p>\n
Says Thompson: \u201cThe routes are set up and managed by Leon Evans, known as Dr Evil and, while cyclists will be riding through one of the most scenic areas in the Garden Route, they will also have their skills tested to the maximum.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 109 km road race follows a new route introduced last year which proved extremely popular.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis exciting route has 1,577 m of climbing,\u201d says Thompson. \u201cIt was designed for enthusiastic, competitive roadies and will keep you working all the way to the finish line.\u201d<\/p>\n
The route takes cyclists from Knysna to Sedgefield, Karatara and Barrington, and back to Knysna. The 50 km route is from Knysna to Sedgefield and back along the N2.<\/p>\n
The Spur Rotary Knysna Children’s Cycle Tour is a safe, scenic race for children from 2 to 10 years of age. This year the venue has been moved to the Festival Grounds to ensure better vantage points for spectators. There are three events – 2-4 years (500 m); 5-7 years (1, 7 km); and 8-10 years (2, 8 km).<\/p>\n
An exciting new event, the Forest Family Dam Ride, has been introduced this year to give families the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed ride together on Sunday, 5 July. The 30 km ride is for MTB riders with some experience, including children over the age of 12, and is open to a limited number of riders. The route will pass Knysna\u2019s three dams and go though some scenic forest areas.<\/p>\n
