{"id":20342,"date":"2015-03-16T15:10:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-16T15:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/03\/16\/stage-2-preview-spectacular-singletrack-ahead-r2219\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T11:11:08","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T11:11:08","slug":"stage-2-preview-spectacular-singletrack-ahead-r2219","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/stage-2-preview-spectacular-singletrack-ahead-r2219\/","title":{"rendered":"Stage 2 Preview: Spectacular singletrack ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now for an interesting mix \u2013 a balance between tough climbing, fast sections and some great singletrack.<\/p>\n<p>First there are a few climbs to negotiate:  at about five kilometres a shortish and particularly nasty one that has concrete strips for traction (followed by a tricky descent), and then on to the Nuweberg from the east side. This is the biggest climb of the day \u2013 it is about five-and-a-half kilometres with a gradient steeper than 25% at over one section.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-63124600-1426523296.jpg\" data-fileid=\"501131\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"501131\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-63124600-1426523296.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-63124600-1426523296.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A couple more climbs \u2013 watch out for some washed out sections on the descents \u2013 as the course weaves across the hills above Grabouw and then riders are in singletrack heaven. The trail carves through about 7km of forest before depositing elated competitors at the Elgin Country Club for Water Point 2. The singletrack is far from over though, and soon riders will be crossing over and through the Oak Valley Wine Estate and Paul Cluver Estate, both with some of the best trails around. Expect loads of spectators at the Paul Cluver amphitheatre with its purpose-built bridges and North Shore-type elevated sections. <\/p>\n<p>This year the Untamed African MTB stage race takes place from 15 to 22 March 2015, and will once again take 1 200 riders through some of the Western Cape\u2019s most unspoilt territory. The race begun with the Prologue on Table Mountain, starting from the University of Cape Town, and will eight days later at Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville.<\/p>\n<p>Meerendal Wine Estate will be hosting the finish of the race and the Grand Finale celebrations for the very first time on 22 March 2015. The Grand Finale will kick off with live entertainment, a Farmer\u2019s Market, delectable food and wine as well as glorious scenery.
