The reintroduced format provides a total of eight legs in the Championship series, culminating in the National Championships on 27 September.

Cycling SA BMX Commission Director, Margot Gerber, said: “This year’s racing format makes it more exciting with more points up for grabs. More effort is needed from the riders, so they will have to work harder for the points on offer. The racing will become far more competitive, which is better for the sport. The Elite categories will still have five legs this year, keeping to the same format as 2014, and the other non-Elite categories will have eight legs.”

Two times SA #1 Junior rider Maia Rawlins is looking forward to the season, despite having to balance Matric work and training. “I’ve pretty much been doing my normal training routine, but not as much intensity. I have decided to tone it down a bit, take it easy, and focus on school,” she said.

The Giba Gorge Team rider has been taking it easy with regards to off-season training. “I actually also have been doing a lot of mountain biking during the off-season, and been enjoying that,” she said.

In terms of the N.A.G series, Rawlins still feels pretty good, without knowing too much about what lies ahead with other competitors:

“I’m not too sure yet who all of the other competitors are, but I’m still feeling good about it. It should be really good,” she concluded.

Entries for the Legs 1-3 are open and you can enter by clicking here.
