{"id":20040,"date":"2015-05-07T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-05-07T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/05\/07\/joberg2c-successfuls-well-prepared-for-nedbank-sani2c-tussle-r2520\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T10:58:19","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T10:58:19","slug":"joberg2c-successfuls-well-prepared-for-nedbank-sani2c-tussle-r2520","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/joberg2c-successfuls-well-prepared-for-nedbank-sani2c-tussle-r2520\/","title":{"rendered":"joBerg2c successfuls well prepared for Nedbank sani2c tussle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The dust stirred up by 2015 Old Mutual joBerg2c victors Johann Rabie and Gawie Combrinck has hardly settled and already the pair are relishing a return to the trails from Sani Pass down to Scottburgh Main Beach at this year\u2019s Nedbank sani2c which takes place from 14-16 May.<\/p>\n<p>The EAI duo stood head and shoulders above the rest of the elite men\u2019s field at the recent nine day clash and they believe their second successive joBerg2c victory stands them in good stead ahead of this year\u2019s tough three day long sani2c clash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cjoBerg2c is a long race and a lot of miles so its good training for the legs and good race preparation for sani2c as well,\u201d says Rabie.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-78349300-1431014577.jpg\" data-fileid=\"527614\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"527614\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-78349300-1431014577.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-78349300-1431014577.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">EAI&#8217;s Johann Rabie (back) and Gawie Combrinck (front) believe the additional time they spent on the trails en route to victory in the recent Old Mutual joBerg2c stands them in good stead ahead of the upcoming 2015 Nedbank sani2c. \/\/ Photo credit: Jetline Action Photo\/ Gameplan Media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201csani2c will obviously see a lot more teams racing than there were at joBerg2c so the competition will definitely be taken up a notch \u2013 something we saw last year when we also won the joBerg2c but then finished third at sani,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p>Rabie believes the time on the sani2c route during the final three days of this year\u2019s joBerg2c also provided them with an invaluable opportunity to refresh their memory of the intricate details of all three stages and will aid them in the quest for another strong showing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s nice to have had the opportunity to run the sani2c route beforehand and have another look at where the quicker sections are, where the more dangerous stretches are, etc. so joBerg2c was definitely great preparation for us ahead of sani.<\/p>\n<div style=\"\">\n<a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-38698500-1431014572.jpg\" data-fileid=\"527613\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"527613\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-38698500-1431014572.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-38698500-1431014572.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Gawie Combrinck (pictured) and EAI team mate Johann Rabie hope to continue their momentum at the upcoming 2015 Nedbank sani2c having recently clinched a second consecutive Old Mutual joBerg2c title. \/\/ Photo credit: Jetline Action Photo\/ Gameplan Media.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201csani2c\u2019s second stage is a really important stage; it\u2019s probably the hardest of the three and its important not to make any mistakes going down into the Umkomaas Valley \u2013 which can cost you a bit of time \u2013 and then again heading back of out the valley \u2013 which is where most of the splits usually happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201csani\u2019s section stage is also one of those special days as far as mountain biking routes go. I think the stretch down into the Umkomaas Valley is one of the best sections of single track you will ever get in mountain biking throughout the world; it\u2019s just a really awesome day\u2019s riding and one we always look forward to,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>Having spent quite some time together as a pair, particularly on the sani2c trails, Rabie also believes his and Combrinck\u2019s understanding of one another should be another advantage the pair will enjoy come 14 May\u2019s start.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve known each other for a couple of years having both come from a road background and I\u2019d say we\u2019re quite similar in strength.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though Gawie has a bit more mountain biking experience than I have, I think we complement each of quite well and work together as a team quite well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen things start going south \u2013 which can quite easily happen on the bike \u2013 then we don\u2019t often fight; we get along well \u2013 something that I believe is really important as far as a team goes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGawie is probably the calmer one of the two of us; when I start to worry about things or get a little frustrated then Gawie is able to calm me down quite well and we seem to work well together, something I\u2019m sure will help during this year\u2019s sani!\u201d says Rabie.<\/p>\n<p>The 11th edition of the Nedbank sani2c&#8217;s gets underway when the Trail event takes place from 12-14 May 2015. The Adventure then unfolds from 13-15 May before the cream of the the country&#8217;s top mountain bikers do battle during the Race from 14-16 May.
