Dave Macleod\/ Gameplan Media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Starting at Camps Drift in Pietermaritzburg and finishing at Durban\u2019s Blue Lagoon, the two day mountain bike stage race sees participants follow much of the route of the renowned Dusi Canoe Marathon, much of which passes through the homesteads of the communities in which Dreyer\u2019s charges call home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo ride through the valley and to race in front of their family, friends and fellow community members is just so incredibly special for our Zulus; it\u2019s probably the highlight of the year for many of our guys!\u201d explains Dreyer, a seven time winner of iconic paddling Dusi Canoe Marathon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRacing in front of their very own community \u2013 who turn out in huge numbers when they hear there is a mountain bike race coming through the area and that some of their fellow community members are racing \u2013 is a huge motivating factor for our Zulus,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p>While the RMB Change a Lifers look to shine in front of their home fans, Dreyer hopes the local support doesn\u2019t prove to be their undoing as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully they\u2019re not too reckless when the crowd starts cheering them on!\u201d says Dreyer tongue-in-cheek.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s almost like an aeroplane doing a flyby or a steam training leaving the station with its \u2018choo-choo\u2019; when our guys hear the crowd they almost can\u2019t help but stand and put power!\u201d he laughs.<\/p>\n<p>For most the race serves as a unique opportunity to explore the region\u2019s picturesque hills and valleys and experience a truly African two days of mountain biking.<\/p>\n<p>For Dreyer\u2019s Zulus though the BSi Steel dusi2c is far more. \u201cThe link between the race and our academy riders is almost indescribable!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven just the route that the race follows \u2013 that is our daily training venue!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is also so special about the BSi Steel dusi2c though is how there is nothing contrived about the route; it is such a wonderful, flowing track but Farmer Glen hasn\u2019t invented anything for the race, those are the trails that had existed in the valley already and what my guys train on daily!<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-26723000-1432905045.jpg\" data-fileid=\"539447\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"539447\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-26723000-1432905045.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-26723000-1432905045.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Having ended on the podium in joint third place in 2014, Ndumiso Dontso will return with a new partner in Sipho Kupiso for the 2015 BSi Steel dusi2c as the RMB Change a Life Academy pair look to push for another podium along their home tracks through the Valley of a Thousand Hills from 20-21 June. Anthony Grote\/ Gameplan Media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only difference would be the incredible, typically \u2018Farmer Glen\u2019 river crossings which occasionally see the guys getting their socks a bit wet and add yet another awesome element to this wonderful race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2014 saw RMB Change a Life\u2019s John Ntuli and Ndumiso Dontso finish joint third and this year the fast-emerging MTB outfit are looking at replicating, if not bettering, the feat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn RMB Change a Life team finishing on the podium again this year is definitely a reality!\u201d believes Dreyer. \u201cHopefully our A team of Sthembiso Masango and Mboneni Ngcobo will have the race of their career at this year\u2019s dusi2c.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whippy nature of the route and the tight, technical turns really suits their PYGA Industries 750B machines too so hopefully they\u2019ll be right in the mix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Masango and Ngcobo aren\u2019t the only ones pushing for significant dusi2c returns though.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSipho (Kupiso) \u2013 who has really come into his own over the past few months \u2013 will be riding with Maza (Ndumiso Dontso) and while they really complement each other so well, they are also such good friends which is really important when it comes to stage racing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey rode both joBerg2c and sani2c together so they\u2019ve built up an understanding on the bike and now they\u2019ve got a race that suits them even better than the others!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In total four Change a Life outfits will be charging down the trails from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in June, three of which have been generously backed by the race itself and title sponsors BSi Steel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA huge thanks to Farmer Glen, dusi2c and BSi Steel for their support of three of our four teams that will be taking part in this year\u2019s race!\u201d says an appreciative Dreyer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir support really is extremely helpful as entries get snapped up online within hours of going on sale and I would hate for any of our guys to miss out on this opportunity that means so much to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More information can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dusi2c.co.za\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.dusi2c.co.za<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Martin Dreyer\u2019s RMB Change a Life Academy is mounting a strong assault on this year\u2019s BSi Steel dusi2c on 20 and 21 June as the pioneering Valley of a Thousand Hills setup goes in search of another strong display on their home turf.
