Today there\u2019s a big need to offer more comfortable alternatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-42586900-1434025696.jpg\" data-fileid=\"546644\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"546644\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-42586900-1434025696.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-42586900-1434025696.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">The Berg and Bush mountain bike stage race is expanding its race village at Emseni Camp on the Tugela River. The event will offer new luxury tenting and ablution facilities for its 10th edition in October. \/\/ Photo: Kelvin Trautman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The event now accommodates 2 500 mountain bikers over three different racing options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe felt the need to build new and permanent ablutions, because it\u2019s very important to us to offer hot showers and clean bathrooms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Green said these would be finished by October, when the race takes place, and would be used in addition to the existing facilities at the Emseni Camp race village near Spioenkop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re quite excited about the new building as there will be \u2018showers with a view\u2019 overlooking the Tugela and our new luxury tented camp.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said a good night\u2019s sleep would also be essential for improving a rider\u2019s performance and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>To this end, Green and his team are planning to create an entire village of roomier safari tents along the Small Tugela, some 500m from the main race village.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe view is amazing and so is the tranquil atmosphere. The campsite is on the riverbank under a canopy of massive trees and the tents will be pitched on a carpet of leaves next to the flowing river.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the plan was to have 50 tents with comfortable stretcher beds, pitched in five-tent laager formations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are aimed at companies who would like to bring their clients along, or groups of friends. We\u2019ll supply a shuttle service for these guests so they can still enjoy the atmosphere at the main race village.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-92203900-1434025704.jpg\" data-fileid=\"546645\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"546645\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-92203900-1434025704.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-92203900-1434025704.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Mountain bikers can look forward to brand-new ablution facilities with a view over the Tugela River for the 10th edition of the Berg and Bush stage race in October. \/\/ Photo: Kelvin Trautman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For those who prefer even more indoor comfort, he said there were many B&amp;Bs, hotels and self-catering options in nearby Winterton and the Central and Northern Drakensberg.<\/p>\n<p>The smaller four-man dome tents would still occupy their traditional spot along the riverbank, added Green.<\/p>\n<p>Each team in the three-day Descent (October 9 to 11) and original two-dayer (October 17 to 18) will be allocated a tent to share, while riders in the Great Trek (October 13 to 15) will have a solo tenting option.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCyclists can also bring their own tents or caravans to Emseni.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bergandbush.co.za\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.bergandbush.co.za<\/a> for more information on accommodation options.
