Darren Goddard\/ Gameplan Media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As the public holiday looks to honour the history of women\u2019s resistance in South Africa \u2013 particularly the efforts of the 20 000 women who marched to Pretoria\u2019s Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in demonstration against the carrying of passes by women \u2013 the popular KZN South Coast mountain bike event is too set to recognise the contributions of the fairer sex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely excited to include a few Women\u2019s Day touches to this year\u2019s Sappi Scottburgh MTB Race!\u201d confirms race director Flavio Scarpa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFittingly, the female contingent of this year\u2019s race will lead the field through the neutral zone from Scottburgh Main Beach to the start line at Renishaw sugarcane farm where they will occupy the front row of the grid on the start line!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Cutty Sark and Blue Marlin hotels have also offered all participants a fantastic Women\u2019s Day discount, perfect for gents to spoil their wives, girlfriends or even their moms with and to enjoy a great long weekend with their family on the South Coast!\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of participating in the event\u2019s 45km Sappi Scottburgh Classic, 28km Dash &amp; Splash Intermediate Ride or the 10km Dash &amp; Splash Family Ride, all female finishers can also look forward to a little something extra when they reach the finish line.<\/p>\n<p>For the racing snakes in the field, the total prize pool has been increased across all age categories with the contributions of Splash WaterWorld and Thirsty Whale Sports &amp; Cocktail Bar seeing this trend extending into the 28km and 10km events too as the next generation of stars look to surge to the front of their respective age group categories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Thule King and Queen of the Mountains is set to add a little extra spice to the race and with this challenge being a little later into the route than previous years it will be interesting to see how things pan out in the dice for this hotspot prize,\u201d says Scarpa.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-91234300-1437647834-1.jpg\" data-fileid=\"569141\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"569141\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-91234300-1437647834.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-91234300-1437647834-1.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">The picturesque South Coast is once again set to provide the ideal stage upon which the action from this year&#8217;s Sappi Scottburgh MTB Race unfolds as the popular race joins in with the nation&#8217;s Women&#8217;s Day celebrations.
