{"id":19459,"date":"2015-08-16T14:10:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-16T13:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/08\/16\/seyffert-finds-solo-success-at-lost-city-mtb-race-r3312\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T14:12:11","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T14:12:11","slug":"seyffert-finds-solo-success-at-lost-city-mtb-race-r3312","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/seyffert-finds-solo-success-at-lost-city-mtb-race-r3312\/","title":{"rendered":"Seyffert finds solo success at Lost City MTB race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Roadie turned mountain biker Pieter Seyffert showed his all-round racing abilities when he soloed to victory at the Bestmed Lost City mountain bike race in the Pilanesberg region of the North-West Province on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Seyffert got away on the first climb of the 55km route and stayed away over the two-lap circuit to claim an uncontested win at the Sun City resort in 1:51:40.<\/p>\n<p>Behind him, a ding-dong battle for second place ensued, with Kai Pritzen fighting off a strong challenge from Kobus Wagner to finish two seconds ahead of his rival in 1:53:59.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-56647400-1439734163-1.jpg\" data-fileid=\"581368\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"581368\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-56647400-1439734163.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-56647400-1439734163-1.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Pieter Seyffert (Altech-Autopage) celebrates his victory in the Bestmed Lost City MTB race at Sun City in the North-West Province on Sunday. Photo: Full Stop Communications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Seyffert, who rides in the colours of Altech-Autopage, said the revamped feature route had offered a more technically demanding course with a few additional climbing challenges early on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe race started splitting up in the first six or seven kilometres and I managed to pull a gap on the first climb and just kept it to the finish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The win is sweet consolation for the 28-year-old Helderkruin resident, who punctured out of the lead bunch with 30km to go in Saturday\u2019s Lost City Cycle Classic.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s mountain bike race, Bestmed-ASG swept the podium, with Sanet Coetzee making a winning debut for the team in a time of 2:10:52.<\/p>\n<p>Her teammates Mariette Hattingh (2:17:28) and Michelle Benson (2:19:00) completed the rout, taking second and third respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Coetzee, who is the national road champion and marathon silver medallist in the 30 to 34 age group, also finished a respectable fifth in the Lost City road race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know how today was going to turn out because my legs were feeling a bit tired from yesterday\u2019s road race,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started quite hard \u2013 it was like a cross-country race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old said the pace remained flat out over both laps of what she described as a \u201cproper mountain biking\u201d course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the end, it turned out well for me.
