{"id":19440,"date":"2015-08-20T13:05:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-20T12:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/08\/20\/quattro-roag-series-title-race-wide-open-with-three-to-go-r3332\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T09:30:39","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T09:30:39","slug":"quattro-roag-series-title-race-wide-open-with-three-to-go-r3332","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/quattro-roag-series-title-race-wide-open-with-three-to-go-r3332\/","title":{"rendered":"Quattro ROAG Series title race wide open with three to go"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brendon Davids\u2019 shift in focus to marathon and stage racing for the remainder of the season has thrown a fresh flavour into the 2015 Quattro ROAG Series men\u2019s title mix and with just three races to go, Saturday\u2019s aQuell\u00e9 Tour de Krantz in Harburg now harbours heightened importance.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s winner of the aQuell\u00e9 Tour de Krantz clash is desperately trying to get his season back on track after a disappointing string of results on the cross country circuit and is determined to do what he can in Harburg this weekend to keep his Quattro ROAG Series title hopes alive.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-30154800-1440075686.jpg\" data-fileid=\"583909\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"583909\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-30154800-1440075686.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-30154800-1440075686.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Kargo Pro MTB Team&#8217;s Brendon Davids hopes to keep his Quattro ROAG Series title hopes alive with a strong showing at this weekend&#8217;s aQuell\u00e9 Tour de Krantz in Harburg. Finishline Photos\/ Gameplan Media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTour de Krantz is probably the best 45km Classic in the country and it will be great to go back and try get a second win in a row!\u201d explained Kargo Pro MTB Team\u2019s Davids. \u201cI\u2019ve been in some really good form recently so hopefully I can go there on Saturday and put in a good performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While back-to-back Tour de Krantz victories may well be within the Kargo Pro MTB Team rider\u2019s range, challenging for the overall series title is a little more of a mathematical than realistic chance for Davids.<\/p>\n<p>Triple Quattro ROAG Series winner Andrew Hill (TIB Insurance) currently tops the 2015 standings on 422 points while Davids \u2013 having only competed in three of the series six races thus far \u2013 occupies tenth position ahead of this weekend\u2019s racing.<\/p>\n<p>Victory in this weekend\u2019s Tour de Krantz, the hotly contested 100km Sunday Tribune Jeep Hill2Hill and the Lake Eland Quattro Classic \u2013 each carrying a winner\u2019s purse of 100 series points \u2013 would see Davids finish on 489 points overall, just 68 points more than Hill\u2019s current total after his five outings.<\/p>\n<p>With 86 and 74 points for second and third place respectively and riders\u2019 best six results counting towards their final points tally, a podium finish for Hill this weekend will effectively ensure the series\u2019 defending champ will overcome Davids title challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Much can happen in mountain biking though, as both Hill and Davids will know all too well, leaving plenty still to race for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou go to race but anything can happen; you see it week in and week out!\u201d said Davids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt happened to me at Eston; one second I was leading and the next I was stopped on the side of the track with a puncture and out of the top ten!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this stage I\u2019m just focusing on my race; I\u2019ll look to give it stick on Saturday and then see how things pan out from there as far as the ROAG Series goes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Davids and Hill will be keeping a keen eye on one another, Team Thule\u2019s Tyronne White is another likely to draw some of their attention.<\/p>\n<p>White, who currently occupies second place on the Quattro ROAG Series log, some 125 points adrift of Hill, is another keen to secure a solid result this weekend as he continues his return from injury.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, injury is a trend that continues into the women\u2019s Quattro ROAG Series mix as well with current log leader Natalie Bergstrom (Jowett\u2019s Cycles) still fighting her way back to full fitness after a devastating shoulder injury.<\/p>\n<p>Having just returned home from setting a new woman\u2019s course record at the 900km Colorado Trail Race in the USA, Tour de Krantz double defending champ Jeannie Dreyer has confirmed her attendance together with recently crowned Under-23 woman\u2019s national cross country champion Hayley Smith (Specialized SA\/Bell Equipment).<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-59474300-1440075686.jpg\" data-fileid=\"583910\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"583910\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-59474300-1440075686.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-59474300-1440075686.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">USN\/Hi-Tec&#8217;s Jeannie Dreyer will have a rare opportunity to claim a third consecutive title at the same event when she takes to the spectacular trails of this weekend&#8217;s aQuell\u00e9 Tour de Krantz in Harburg. Anthony Grote\/ Finishline Photos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTour de Krantz will be a lot shorter and a lot faster than what I\u2019ve just done,\u201d said USN\/Hi-Tec\u2019s Dreyer. \u201cWhile it obviously would be nice to win three in a row, that won\u2019t be the focus for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t ridden much since getting back from Colorado so I\u2019m just looking forward to getting back on the bike and having a jol out there!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is such a scenic and beautiful route and a lovely, hilly course that suits me so it should be a lot of fun!\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 aQuell\u00e9 Tour de Krantz offers riders the choice of a 45, 25 or 10km adventure with participants set to experience the new and exciting race routes for the first time on Saturday 22 August.<\/p>\n<p>The event also incorporates the ever-popular Hamburg Fest with the day\u2019s programme including a farmer\u2019s market, live oompah brass band and beer tent for the adults while the kiddies fun race and kids play area \u2013 offering face painting, balloons, a jumping castle and jungle gym \u2013 promises a great day out for the whole family.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 Quattro ROAG Series is a nine leg series that sees all of KZN\u2019s top mountain bikers doing battle for the coveted title and the winner\u2019s cheque of R22 000 for both the male and female overall winners.
