{"id":19409,"date":"2015-08-25T14:20:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-25T13:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/08\/25\/davids-amp-dreyer-defend-tour-de-krantz-crowns-r3373\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T09:29:26","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T09:29:26","slug":"davids-amp-dreyer-defend-tour-de-krantz-crowns-r3373","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/davids-amp-dreyer-defend-tour-de-krantz-crowns-r3373\/","title":{"rendered":"Davids &#038; Dreyer defend Tour de Krantz crowns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday 23 August\u2019s aQuell\u00e9 Tour de Krantz saw Brendon Davids continue his recent good run of form when he claimed his second victory in as many years at the event while Jeannie Dreyer comfortably clinched the women\u2019s spoils for the third year running.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to get another win under the belt and that things are looking up for me now,\u201d said Davids. \u201cI had the form after the Cape Epic but things didn\u2019t quite go my way this season so it\u2019s really good to finally be a positive frame of mind and doing well again!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-28590000-1440512265.jpg\" data-fileid=\"586722\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"586722\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-28590000-1440512265.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-28590000-1440512265.jpg\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Kargo Pro MTB Team&#8217;s Brendon Davids claimed his second race win of the 2015 Quattro ROAG Series when he stormed to victory in the 2015 aQuell\u00e9 Tour de Krantz on Sunday. Finishline Photos\/ Gameplan Media<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew I\u2019d have to make the racing as hard as I could from the start on Sunday so I went hard early on and with ten kilometers to go I had a five minute lead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately I got a bit lost though, which I thought was going to cost me, but luckily I managed to stay in front and it was great to get the win in the end,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>There was plenty at stake ahead of the starter\u2019s gun firing as the race for this year\u2019s Quattro ROAG Series title nears completion and the sport\u2019s racing snakes seek valuable last minute log points.<\/p>\n<p>Having only completed three series races prior to the Tour de Krantz, Kargo Pro MTB Team\u2019s Davids was desperate for a positive result in order to keep his mathematical chance of challenging for top honours in this year\u2019s Quattro ROAG Series alive.<\/p>\n<p>Despite doing all he could on the day though, Davids\u2019 move to keep himself in the running for the series crown was carefully marked by triple series defending champ Andrew Hill who crossed the line in third place behind Davids and Team Thule\u2019s Tyronne White.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing into Sunday\u2019s Tour de Krantz I knew I just needed a top three finish in one of the remaining three races to have enough points to get ahead of Brendon (Davids) on the ROAG Series log,\u201d said TIB Insurance\u2019s Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was also quite nice not having to push for the race win in order to stay in the mix for the series title, especially with the legs being pretty loaded after all the training ahead of Hill2Hill and some of the season\u2019s big stage races that are coming up.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"\">\n<a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-62362600-1440512264.jpg\" data-fileid=\"586721\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"586721\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-62362600-1440512264.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-62362600-1440512264.jpg\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">SN\/Hi-Tec&#8217;s Jeannie Dreyer cruised to a comfortable victory in the women&#8217;s race of Sunday&#8217;s aQuell\u00e9 Tour de Krantz ahead of Pure Adventure Wear&#8217;s Tiffany Keep (background) that now sees Dreyer firm favourite to clinch the 2015 Quattro ROAG Series women&#8217;s crown. Gavin Ryan\/ Finishline Photos\/ Gameplan Media<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p>With Davids\u2019 hopes dashed, the battle for the overall men\u2019s spoils has been narrowed down to a two horse race as Hill now looks to fend off White\u2019s late charge after his recent return from injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a bit of a bittersweet situation now,\u201d said Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTyronne is obviously a good friend of mine and we\u2019re going to be doing some stage races together shortly so from that perspective it is great to see him improving and putting in some really good performances again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the other hand though, it would be great to win my fourth consecutive ROAG Series!\u201d he laughed.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s race saw Dreyer \u2013 fresh off her record-breaking effort at the 900km Colorado Trail Race, USA \u2013 unchallenged at the front of the race as the USN\/Hi-Tec star claimed her fourth race victory of this year\u2019s Quattro ROAG Series.<\/p>\n<p>With 400 points now to her name and just two races to go, few would bet against Dreyer clinching the women\u2019s series spoils for 2015, despite Jowett Cycles\u2019 Natalie Bergstrom still topping standings on 424 points.<\/p>\n<p>A brave effort from junior rider Tiffany Keep saw the young Pure Adventure Wear rider clinch second place, while Bell Equipment\u2019s Hayley Smith finished third.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 Quattro ROAG Series is a nine leg series that sees all of KZN\u2019s top mountain bikers doing battle for the coveted title and the winner\u2019s cheque of R22 000 for both the male and female overall winners.
