{"id":19369,"date":"2015-09-03T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/09\/03\/kachelhoffers-european-dream-comes-true-after-five-years-r3424\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T09:27:06","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T09:27:06","slug":"kachelhoffers-european-dream-comes-true-after-five-years-r3424","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/kachelhoffers-european-dream-comes-true-after-five-years-r3424\/","title":{"rendered":"Kachelhoffer\u2019s European dream comes true after five years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African elite woman road cyclist, An-Li Kachelhoffer, recently competed in the 79.9km De Gemeente Ledegem in Belgium on 23 August, where she claimed her first ever European win in a country that she holds very dear to her heart.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-57692700-1441289016.jpg\" data-fileid=\"592074\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"592074\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-57692700-1441289016.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-57692700-1441289016.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">An-Li Kachelhoffer (Team Activate\/Demacon) is ecstatic to have a European win behind her, after she won the De Gemeente Ledegem in Belgium on 23 August. Kachelhoffer is now currently competing with the South African Women&#8217;s Road Cycling Team in the UCI 2.2 stage race, the Tour Cycliste Femini International de l&#8217;Ardeche in France from 2-7 September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Being her last race in Belgium with Heidi Dalton before linking up with the national team for the Women\u2019s European Racing Programme, Kachelhoffer chats about their successful European stint so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had four podiums between the two of us in 11 races. For the 12th and final race, I think way back in my mind I had that little thought that it would be great to win the race. If you asked me on the start line if I thought I could win the race I would most probably have said \u2018no\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe drove two and-a-half hours to get to the race and got caught in traffic so it was such a rush just to get to the start line. I knew that my form was good before the race, but I was really not mentally there. About three laps into the race, my body and mind connected,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Team Activate\/Demacon rider, who has mentioned her love for Belgium in previous interviews and on social media platforms, says that this win was of great significance in her career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had dreamt about and pursued a win in Belgium for the past five years. Yes, it\u2019s not a UCI race win, but it\u2019s one stepping stone closer to the bigger dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Heidi Dalton recorded an 11th place, 2\u201915\u201d off Kachelhoffer\u2019s time.<\/p>\n<p>Although often that worth having does not arrive overnight, 28-year-old Kachelhoffer is excited about the progress that South African women\u2019s cycling has made over the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs South Africans we are being more respected in the international bunches. As a small all-rounder I would like to hope that other women in South Africa would see that anything is possible if you put your mind to it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s European Racing Programme is encompassing events such as Tour Cycliste F\u00e9minin International de l&#8217;Ardeche (UCI 2.2 stage race in France from 2-7.09.2015) and Premondiale Giro Toscana Int. Femminile &#8211; Memorial Michela Fanini (UCI 2.2 stage race in Italy from 11-13.09.2015).
