I love the amount of great single track as well as the beautiful landscape of this race. The stages are not too long and not too short. Riders get to experience a variety of terrain over the three days, so it’s never boring. Our goal will definitely be to win.”

“I have done this race a few times now,” says Stenerhag. “It’s definitely one of my highlights of the year. The route is of the best that I’ve ever ridden and it keeps improving every year. The atmosphere at the race is so relaxed with riders just having fun at the end of a long season. I am really looking forward to racing with Robyn. Our team dynamic is our strength. Our goal will definitely be the top step of the podium.”

After competing at her first W2W Race in 2014, De Groot added the event to her list of favorites. “It’s an awesome way to finish off the season,” says De Groot. “Day Two is definitely my favorite. We’re treated to some incredible trail and single track with wooden berms and bridges. I get excited just thinking about it. Winning is our main objective. With the announcement of the prize money incentive, we know that the competition is bound to be extremely tough. We are expecting a very exciting and competitive race.”

The prize purse for the 2015 FNB W2W MTB Race has increased by R31 500, taking the overall total to a whopping R381 500. The overall women’s team will take home a prize purse of R65 000 after Stage Three. Runners up will be awarded R30 000, while the final team on the podium will win R17 500.

In addition to this impressive prize purse, the first women’s team to reach the ISUZU Hot Spot on Day Two will take home a well-deserved R5000.

For more information on the FNB Wines2Whales MTB events contact 083 760 3158, e-mail race@wines2whales.co.za, adventure@wines2whales.co.za or ride@wines2whales.co.za or visit www.wines2whales.co.za.

The 7th annual FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Race will see a stellar field of elite female competitors toe the line at the majestic Lourensford Wine Estate (Somerset West) on Friday, 06 November 2015.
