{"id":19094,"date":"2015-10-30T12:25:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-30T12:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/10\/30\/bmx-afcon-attracts-south-african-riders-r3740\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T09:07:06","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T09:07:06","slug":"bmx-afcon-attracts-south-african-riders-r3740","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/bmx-afcon-attracts-south-african-riders-r3740\/","title":{"rendered":"BMX AFCON attracts South African riders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zimbabwe are the proud hosts of the second edition of the BMX African Continental Championships, which will take place at the Harare BMX Club, Old Georgians Sports Club, in Harare from Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 November 2015.<\/p>\n<p>South African Elite and Junior Elite BMX riders will be traveling to Zimbabwe as the chase for UCI points in the BMX discipline continues towards qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Non-elite riders will also be competing in the Challenge categories, but do not earn UCI points in their races.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-97807200-1446207980.jpg\" data-fileid=\"622987\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"622987\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-97807200-1446207980.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-97807200-1446207980.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">The 2015 BMX African Continental Championships will take place at the Harare BMX Club in Zimbabwe from Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 November 2015. Photo: Kevin Bender<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Continental Championship will see the practice sessions open on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 November from 2pm to 6pm, with official gate practices getting underway on Friday 13 November. Friday will also see the Elite and Junior Elite time trial for seeding purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The racing action starts from 9am on Saturday 14 November, with the Finals expected to start at 2pm and the prize giving ceremony to close off the proceedings at 3pm.<\/p>\n<p>Entries for the 2015 BMX African Continental Championships are open and South African riders can enter by downloading the entry form here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyclingsa.com\/s\/20151030_2015-afcon-technical-guide-copy.PDF\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.cyclingsa.com\/s\/20151030_2015-afcon-technical-guide-copy.PDF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Please send your entries to Alan Dodd by email alan@capex.co.za before Wednesday 4 November \u2013 no late entries will be accepted.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, the relationship between South African and Zimbabwean BMX riders has remained solid, providing a good source of competition between the nations. Each year, the South Africans travel to the neighbouring country for the popular end-of-year competition, the Africa Challenge, which will take place again this year as a second event on Sunday 15 November.<\/p>\n<p>Entries for the All Africa Challenge are open, and close on Wednesday 4 November.
