Photo: Owen Lloyd \/ Team Intellibus<\/a><\/span><\/p>\nSmith went on to explain the reasoning behind combining Interprovincial and Grand Prix events. \u201cThe Interprovincial events give provinces the chance to select their best riders, to ride as a team.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy sending them to each Interprov and GP, it gives the riders three chances a year to compete strength against strength. By having some of the greatest riders from each province competing, it really lifts the standard of track cycling. This brings many of the best riders in South Africa together on a regular basis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Smith mentioned that the Grand Prix is a prestigious event, which then sees riders compete for individual victories. \u201cBy having these track meetings at the same time, we are able to see some of the country\u2019s greatest riders who are there to represent their provinces, then compete for individual glory,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe third and final Interprov and GP takes place in Gauteng in two weeks time,\u201d Smith concluded.<\/p>\n
