South African Cycling Champion Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio\u2019s victory at the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge UCI 1.1 Women\u2019s Race at the weekend has escalated her position in the Elite Women UCI Individual World Rankings to sixth place, the highest ranking to date from any woman rider in the country.<\/p>\n

Racing for Bigla Pro Cycling Team in the first event of its kind in South Africa saw the women\u2019s cycling ambassador compete against 120 Elite Women in the high-status UCI ranked event. Moolman-Pasio\u2019s victory on Sunday saw her add 80 valuable UCI points to her Individual World Ranking, moving her up three places from ninth to sixth.<\/p>\n

South African women\u2019s cycling is now ranked within the top 10 in the Nation\u2019s Ranking, having also moved up three places from 12th to ninth place.<\/p>\n

A further three South African women are currently placed in the top 100 UCI Individual Rankings. An-Li Kachelhoffer has moved up 17 places from 100 to 83 after the weekend\u2019s race, while Cherise Stander retains her 93rd place and Lise Olivier has climbed two places from 98 to 96.<\/p>\n

Moolman-Pasio\u2019s Individual Ranking has played a large part in boosting the Nation\u2019s Ranking, which is what will ultimately determine how many riders South Africa will be able to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

Cycling SA Road Commission Director, Bosseau Boshoff, said: \u201cWith Ashleigh\u2019s points being so high, she has pushed us as a nation into the top 10 in the world. Ashleigh\u2019s points\u2019 tally has helped our Nations Ranking a lot. She has had an incredible season and we are extremely proud of her achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moolman-Pasio and her fellow national riders have until 31 May 2016 to further increase their individual UCI points tally, which will determine the UCI Nation\u2019s Ranking for Olympic qualification.<\/p>\n

Events like the 2016 SA National Road Championships and 2016 African Continental Championships carry significant UCI points for our local competitors, while Moolman-Pasio will target some European UCI road races in the early part of the season as well.<\/p>\n
