According to Sahm, they wanted to be in the first group of riders that reached Bartinney Skyfall. “James Reid was really pushing the pace up Botmaskop. Seeing as we were already in front, Karl and I decided to give it full gas until the end. If I tell everybody back home about the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails, they’ll definitely want to come do it.”

Stage Two of the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails two-day mountain bike stage event closed off on a high note at the picturesque Blaauwklippen Wine Estate on Saturday, 28 November 2015. Photo Credit: Volume Photography

“Today was awesome,” said Platt. “The weather was nice and there were lots of fun trails. We were playing in the single track. I think I’m also finally getting over my hangover. We’ve been enjoying some good SA wine and company.”

Riding in the Contego colours Thembisile Shaun Mtintsilana of Kayamandi had a spectacular time taking on the medium route. “I had an absolute blast today, giving it full gas from start to finish,” said Mtintsilana. “Stage Two definitely features the best route. It was more technical with great single track, forcing me to be more focused and push the limit. I started mountain biking in 2005. I love the sport, because for me it’s the perfect stress reliever. It’s like having a two wheeled psychologist.”

According to Ariane Kleinhans, the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails brings the mountain biking community closer together. “There is no hierarchy as it’s all about the trails and getting to enjoy the sport. The elite riders get to hang around afterwards and engage with people, this is very important.”

“The Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails comes at the right time of the year,” said James Reid. “It’s the start of the festive season, so we get to network and appreciate riding. It’s a much needed, different perspective.”

ISUZU MTB Academy Coach, Jo Dobinson was given the rare opportunity to participate with the academy riders. “Being able to ride with the guys was amazing. I was able to identify where they still need help. The weather conditions during stage one were extremely windy, so I used the opportunity to teach the guys how to ride in slip stream. Although I’ve only been working with them for ten months now, I can already see that their technical skills have improved. I’m thankful to ISUZU and Stillwater Sports for this awesome opportunity and for the support.”

Since its inception in 2013 the emphasis of this exciting two day mountain bike stage event has been on the route and the enjoyment thereof. “Our goal has always been to combine a vast network of world class trails with beauty and exclusivity, while raising funds to further trail building in Stellenbosch,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “A portion of every entry fee will go directly towards trail building and local organizations aligned around these trails. We trust that each rider had a memorable experience and we look forward to welcoming all riders back in 2016.”

Top results attached:

Results Stage Two Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails.xlsx – GC stage 1 and 2 combined.pdf

Stage Two of the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails two-day mountain bike stage event closed off on a high note at the picturesque Blaauwklippen Wine Estate on Saturday, 28 November 2015.
