Many of KZN\u2019s female mountain bikers will be hoping for a final strong showing of 2015 when they take on Sunday, 6 December\u2019s STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure at Summerveld Estate, Shongweni however they will not only have the challenge of each other to overcome but some of Mpumalanga\u2019s finest as well.<\/p>\n

As the start of December sees them already easing into the festive season at their holiday home in Ballito, Vivienne Turvey and Jeanette Treherne from Nelspruit are also relishing the opportunity to take on a fresh challenge in an unfamiliar environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe come down to Ballito most Decembers and so we thought whilst we were down here we might as well also take part in a race or two,\u201d explained Turvey. \u201cWe know nothing about the Sharks Trail Adventure but we\u2019re looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re used to riding in Barberton, Mankele and surrounds back in Mpumalanga so it will be great to enjoy something new!\u201d added Treherne.<\/p>\n

Despite having only been mountain biking for the past two years, the pair have already clocked up some impressive results.<\/p>\n

Turvey secured third and Treherne fourth in the Nkomazi MTB Challenge in August while the Uplands MTB Classic saw the couple finish sixth and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n

One of their most recent MTB outings saw Turvey and Treherne tackle the rough and rocky trails the Isuzu 3 Towers Stage Race together, finishing second in the Open Women Challenge category, while previous trips to KZN have also seen them take on the Compendium Sugar Rush Classic and X10siv Umko Challenge.<\/p>\n

Despite this, Turvey and Treherne are apprehensive as to just how much these past experiences will aid in their effort at Sunday\u2019s 40km MTB event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve done a couple of races here in KZN and we ride at Holla Trails quite often when we come to Ballito,\u201d said Treherne.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not too sure how similar those will be to this weekend\u2019s route though!\u201d added Turvey.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe spin together at gym every day and so we\u2019re fit but it\u2019s difficult to say how we\u2019ll go on the day,\u201d explained Treherne. \u201cA lot can happen in mountain biking and we know who our opposition are at races back home but here it is impossible to tell how strong we are until the day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll just see how we feel on the day and take things from there,\u201d added Turvey.<\/p>\n
