{"id":18956,"date":"2015-12-05T05:15:00","date_gmt":"2015-12-05T05:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2015\/12\/05\/eleventh-hour-entry-flood-spices-up-sharks-trail-adventure-mix-r3884\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T08:53:27","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T08:53:27","slug":"eleventh-hour-entry-flood-spices-up-sharks-trail-adventure-mix-r3884","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/eleventh-hour-entry-flood-spices-up-sharks-trail-adventure-mix-r3884\/","title":{"rendered":"Eleventh hour entry flood spices up Sharks Trail Adventure mix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A flurry of last minute entries across both the mountain bike and trail running events of Sunday\u2019s STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure at Summerveld Estate, Shongweni has add extra interest in the end-of-year day of outdoor adventure and festive family fun.<\/p>\n<p>Adventure seekers young and old come together this Sunday to enjoy one last dose of trail exploration for 2015 and ease into the festive season however the most competitive field of the event\u2019s four year history will undoubtedly still see the racing snakes pushing both the lungs and legs to the limit one last time this year.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-57192800-1449292722.jpg\" data-fileid=\"643621\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"643621\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-57192800-1449292722.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-57192800-1449292722.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">TIB Insurance&#8217;s Andrew Hill will be up against a stellar field at Sunday&#8217;s STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure at Summerveld Estate as he looks to wrap up win number four in the 40km Half Marathon MTB event. Anthony Grote\/ Gameplan Media<\/span><\/p>\n<p>40km MTB triple defending champion Andrew Hill (TIB Insurance) will start Sunday\u2019s race eager to further etch his name into the event\u2019s record books by becoming the first participant ever to win four titles and maintain his unbeaten run at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The Hillcrest local will however be hard pressed to achieve the feat after Kargo Pro MTB Team members Brendon Davids, Alan Hatherly and Andrew Warr all secured a last minute spot on the start line.<\/p>\n<p>Leeroy Emslie will also be in attendance again in 2015 and with a second and third at the event in 2012 and 2014 respectively, the Leigh\u2019s Cycle Centre rider will be eager for another strong showing.<\/p>\n<p>The Kargo Pro MTB Team flavor continues into the women\u2019s field too after youngsters Frankie du Toit and Hayley Smith threw their hats into the ring at the last possible moment.<\/p>\n<p>The pair join Pure Adventure Wear junior as a trio of tomorrow\u2019s stars likely to dominate this year\u2019s 40km Half Marathon MTB women\u2019s field.<\/p>\n<p>Some changes to the 40km MTB course will see riders still visit many of the popular route\u2019s renowned attractions in the heart of the Shongweni valley however a heightened flow together with a reworked and safer final three kilometers promise an even greater trail experience for all.<\/p>\n<p>On the trail running front, 18km women\u2019s double defending champ Xoli Madida will once again look to make the top step of the podium her own while men\u2019s podium regular Owen Bengo will be eyeing out a maiden title at the event this time around.<\/p>\n<p>While many enjoy their journey through Shongweni Valley either by foot or bike, the Sharkie Kids Ride is once again set to prove one of the day\u2019s stand out events for all, particularly for those who are the future of mountain biking in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>For the less adventurous or once the trail adventurers cross the finish line, live entertainment from local musician Chico Muya will set the ideal tone for the rest of the day to be enjoyed under the plentifully shady trees of the picturesque Summerveld Estate as participants, supports and local community members alike explore the various craft and fresh produce stalls of the Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market.<\/p>\n<p>The presence of the Cell C Sharks squad is another stand out feature of the day for many as the rugby heroes assist at water tables, welcome riders home and interact with their loyal fans during the autograph session.<\/p>\n<p>Those attending on the day are also encourage to pack a picnic basket or a braai and spread out on Summerveld\u2019s lush, comfortable fields and enjoy unwinding at the end of a long year together with family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>The STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure takes place at Summerveld Estate, Shongweni on Sunday, 6 December.
