There was a four-way battle for second place between William Mokgopo, Nico Sterk, Alan Gordon and newcomer, Iain Peterkin. Sterk eventually got the edge over his rivals with Peterkin claiming third.

Brand Du Plessis setting fire to the trail | Photo Credit: ZC Marketing Consulting

In the women’s race there were three standout podium contenders, Steyn, Nicolette Griffioen and Carla van Huysteen. Griffioen’s win at the recent X-terra off-road triathlon event at Buffelspoort confirmed her good form, but it was multiple winner Steyn who claimed victory ahead of Van Huysteen with Griffioen rounding in out the podium places. Just five minutes separated Steyn from Griffioen, confirming the depth of the women’s category is improving.

What really makes these events so attractive is the family focus. With three main distance options, the shorter two being ideal for kids and teens, as well as a child-minding service, the appeal is obvious.

Round 2 of the Momentum Health OatWell DualX Series, powered by PeptoPro is on 2 April 2016 at Hakahana Trails, west of Pretoria, a favourite venue in the 2015 series.

Andrea Steyn setting the pace all the way to the finish | Photo Credit: ZC Marketing Consulting

For full results of Round 1, visit www.saseeding.co.za.
