Photo: Warren Elsom\/Capcha<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p>His teammate Keagan Girdlestone won the final stage in scorching conditions to consolidate his second position overall with former national road champion Darren Lill completing the podium for USN-Purefit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing into this race we had a three-point plan,\u201d said De Bod.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur first objective was to win the general classification, the second to win two stages and lastly to take either the king of the mountains or points classifications as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the team was \u201camazing\u201d in supporting him in his bid for the GC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t have done it without them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De Bod said his personal objective was to win at least one stage, but especially the time-trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI tried to win another but got the GC and was happy to help set Keagan up for the win today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the whole tour was tough, with the penultimate stage, which included the Du Toitskloof and Bain\u2019s Kloof ascents, the most stressful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a big break and I also didn\u2019t feel so good yesterday, but it helps to have a team like this behind me.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"grid grid-cols-12 gap-4\">\n<div class=\"col-span-6\">\n<a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-46879000-1457106722.jpg\" data-fileid=\"690684\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"690684\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-46879000-1457106722.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-46879000-1457106722.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Denmark\u2019s Annika Langvad en route to victory in the final stage of the Bestmed Tour of Good Hope above Paarl today. Photo: Warren Elsom\/Capcha<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The U23 national time-trial champion said that although the last stage was relatively short and that his closest challenger was from within his own team, he was concerned that a small breakaway group, crashes or punctures could spoil his day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grew up in the Western Cape so I\u2019m very happy to win this tour on my home ground. It is certainly one of the biggest wins of my career and a great start to the year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Denmark\u2019s Annika Langvad won four of the five stages, including the final one, to secure the yellow jersey in the women\u2019s race.<\/p>\n<p>Former British road champion Sharon Laws, who rode aggressively in the mountains, and Switzerland\u2019s Ariane Kleinhans completed the overall podium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis race was a nice adventure,\u201d said Langvad, who will be targeting another Cape Epic title later this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy objective was to use it as my final preparation for the Epic, but, of course, when you start doing well you get caught up in the racing.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text-2xl font-bold\">Stage 5 results and GC:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Elite men<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Results<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.
