{"id":18153,"date":"2016-05-17T16:15:00","date_gmt":"2016-05-17T15:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2016\/05\/17\/bsi-steel-dusi2c-retains-no-frills-charm-r4807\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T08:14:31","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T08:14:31","slug":"bsi-steel-dusi2c-retains-no-frills-charm-r4807","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/bsi-steel-dusi2c-retains-no-frills-charm-r4807\/","title":{"rendered":"BSi Steel dusi2c retains \u2018no frills\u2019 charm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the BSi Steel dusi2c continues to attract mountain bikers from around South Africa, \u2018Farmer Glen\u2019 Haw is determined to see the race maintain its low-key, adventure orientated charm when the two day event takes place from Camps Drift in Pietermaritzburg to Blue Lagoon in Durban from 11-12 June 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The KAP sani2c recently came to an end, providing Farmer Glen with a slither of breathing space before he dives into preparing the dusi2c route and overnight stop at the iconic Mfula Store deep in the heart of the Valley of a Thousand Hills.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-84585800-1463501806.jpg\" data-fileid=\"728469\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"728469\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-84585800-1463501806.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-84585800-1463501806.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Despite the exciting trails that riders can expect for the 2016 BSi Steel dusi2c they can also expect some of Farmer Glen&#8217;s trusty curve balls that make the mountain biking experience even more entertaining when the race gets underway from 11-12 June. Anthony Grote\/ Gameplan Media<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In his bid to retain the event\u2019s distinct character, Haw doesn\u2019t foresee many changes occurring to the route, or any other elements of the race, as the event\u2019s popularity suggests that the organisers have got the balance right over the past three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think that we are going to make many changes to the route this year at all,\u201d Haw mentioned. \u201cWe have made sure over the years that there are some curve balls for riders and some of those, and a few new ones, will be back this year but at the end of the day the race is all about the riding experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe race will continue to follow very closely to the banks of the uMsundusi and uMngeni Rivers and we feel that the riders appreciate the course that they ride,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The team that are responsible for clearing the track and setting up the overnight stop at the Mfula Store are all members of the local Valley of a Thousand Hills community, something Haw takes pride in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe race is really unique in the fact that the community do all the work \u2013 from clearing the trails to making the trophies, putting up tents to cleaning the overnight stop \u2013 they are heavily involved and that is something that we appreciate as we aim to give back to the rural communities along the route.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-35967700-1463501801.jpg\" data-fileid=\"728468\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"728468\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-35967700-1463501801.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-35967700-1463501801.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Riders will cross the uMsundusi and uMngeni Rivers on numerous occasions as they make their way from Pietermaritzburg to Durban during the 2016 BSi Steel dusi2c starting at Campsdrift from 11-12 June. Anthony Grote\/ Gameplan Media<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe partner with Durban Green Corridor and employ local people from the Valley to hand build the entire route down to the sea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe layout and design of this route is key to the success of the event and we appreciate how important this is not only in creating employment for the rural communities in the valley but, more importantly, in gaining their support and trust,\u201d Haw stressed.<\/p>\n<p>The 600-strong field that will take on the 120 kilometre journey is an exclusive bunch as the race is capped at 300 pairs and has been fully subscribed in the past, indicating the prestige of a \u2018Farmer\u2019 Glen event within the mountain biking community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we compared the race to sani2c, the focus at dusi2c is purely on the riding and there are no distractions or frills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are also a lot less riders at the dusi2c which gives the event a low-key atmosphere, although word is now getting out there and so we could be expecting a number of the country\u2019s top riders this year!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a really unique experience from a riding perspective, which adds to the appeal of the event and we are expecting this year to be another hugely successful edition of the race,\u201d an expectant Haw added.<\/p>\n<p>For more information visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dusi2c.co.za\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.dusi2c.co.za<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the BSi Steel dusi2c continues to attract mountain bikers from around South Africa, \u2018Farmer Glen\u2019 Haw is determined to see the race maintain its low-key, adventure orientated charm when the two day event takes place from Camps Drift in Pietermaritzburg to Blue Lagoon in Durban from 11-12 June 2016.
