{"id":17823,"date":"2016-07-27T08:50:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-27T07:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2016\/07\/27\/mec-vadi-to-handover-150-bicycles-to-lawley-learners-r5287\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T07:53:03","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T07:53:03","slug":"mec-vadi-to-handover-150-bicycles-to-lawley-learners-r5287","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/mec-vadi-to-handover-150-bicycles-to-lawley-learners-r5287\/","title":{"rendered":"MEC Vadi to handover 150 bicycles to Lawley learners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport MEC Ismail Vadi will on Wednesday, 27 July 2016, handover 150 bicycles to Stanley Ramoba Primary School learners in Lawley, south of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of bicycles is part of the Shovakalula Bicycle Project which is a national initiative by the Department of Transport that seeks to provide ease of mobility to learners walking over 3km between home and school.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the project\u2019s objective is aimed at maximizing the use of non-motorized transport to enable communities to access social opportunities. It also seeks to promote cycling as a low cost mobility solution to low income households, targeting mainly scholars.<\/p>\n<p>The project has to date donated over thirty thousand bicycles throughout Gauteng to learners who meet the set qualification criteria to alleviate their mobility constraints and provide ease of access to learning institutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport MEC Ismail Vadi will on Wednesday, 27 July 2016, handover 150 bicycles to Stanley Ramoba Primary School learners in Lawley, south of Johannesburg.
