{"id":17776,"date":"2016-08-05T08:50:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-05T07:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2016\/08\/05\/eston-mtb-challenge-essential-to-local-communitys-development-r5349\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T07:50:13","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T07:50:13","slug":"eston-mtb-challenge-essential-to-local-communitys-development-r5349","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/eston-mtb-challenge-essential-to-local-communitys-development-r5349\/","title":{"rendered":"Eston MTB Challenge essential to local community\u2019s development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday\u2019s Illovo Eston MTB Challenge, one of the province\u2019s stand-out mountain biking events on the calendar and which many cyclists flock to annually, also serves as a key fund raiser for the Beaumont Eston Farmers\u2019 Club \u2013 the region\u2019s principle sporting, social and business hub.<\/p>\n<p>Funds generated by the mountain biking event each year are put towards the development of the club\u2019s facilities as well as the Eston Primary School.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-25665800-1470386912.jpg\" data-fileid=\"776024\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"776024\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-25665800-1470386912.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-25665800-1470386912.jpg\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">The Beaumont Eston Farmers&#8217; Club plays host to the Illovo Eston MTB Challenge on a yearly basis and the event acts as a crucial fund raiser for the club which is the region&#8217;s business, social and sporting hub. Anthony Grote\/ Gameplan Media<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Eston Club is the core of our community,\u201d explains Race Director, Ant Foster. \u201cIt is the hub around which a lot of our community\u2019s sporting, business and social interests operate, so the Illovo Eston MTB Challenge has a huge impact on not only the Club itself, but the community as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach year we look forward to being able to put the funds every year raised through the Illovo Eston MTB Challenge towards various initiatives, which help hugely in bringing the whole community closer together,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p>Previous projects supported by the event\u2019s profits include the establishment of the Primary School\u2019s computer room and installation of smart boards while more recently, an astro turf has been laid at the Club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunds have accumulated and were recently put towards a second hand, three-quarters size astro turf on the old tennis courts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re now able to use the astro to hold clinics for the whole community as well as mini-hockey matches for the school kids while a social league is also about to start.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe astro has become another hub of sporting activity at the club and has been another great initiative for the Eston Club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-58364100-1470386912.jpg\" data-fileid=\"776025\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"776025\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-58364100-1470386912.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-58364100-1470386912.jpg\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">The 2016 Illovo Eston MTB Challenge which takes place at the Eston Farmers&#8217; Club on Sunday 7 August draws a lot support from the surrounding community as the event plays a crucial role in helping to maintain the club which is a central hub of activity in the area. Anthony Grote\/ Gameplan Media<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Through its cricket, squash, shooting, hockey, canoe, tennis, cycling and touch-rugby codes, the Club\u2019s members all rally together both before and during race day, each code contributing to a different aspect of the event\u2019s success.<\/p>\n<p>The home of kettlebell and boot camp classes, host of major local events such as the annual Eston Show, as well as used for weddings, conferences and other functions, the versatile venue remains the heartbeat of the Eston community.<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Illovo Eston MTB Challenge takes place on Sunday, 7 August.
