Theo Erlangsen overcame tough conditions and charging competitors to win Round Three of the SRAM Gravity Enduro Series presented by YT Industries held at Contermanskloof on Sunday 14 August 2016. Erlangsen finished ahead of Robert Starke and Gert Heyns over the four-stage event in a combined time of 00:07:19,754.<\/p>\n

Enduro\u2019s are always fun,\u201d Erlangsen, who comes from a Downhill racing background commented afterward. \u201cWinning feels pretty good too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In contrast to the perfect racing conditions during Round Two in Jonkershoek two weeks prior (won by Gert Heyns), cold, wet and windy conditions tested all comers at Contermanskloof. \u201cThe first two stages were super tricky,\u201d Erlangsen \u2013 who was piloting an aluminium YT Capra \u2013 explains. \u201cJust super slick because of all the rain before and on the day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe third stage (1.35km -9% 106m) wasn\u2019t too bad (in terms of grip), as the berms had been nicely build-up,\u201d he said, before adding that the head wind on that stage and the fourth and final stage made things pretty tough.<\/p>\n

\u201cStage four (2.4km -12% 291m) was by far the best of the day,\u201d Erlangsen said. \u201cThe head wind at the top was quite hectic, but otherwise the track was really really sick the whole way down.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Erlangsen the best part about racing Enduro \u2013 the true spirit of it \u2013 is that it brings together riders from various disciplines and allows them to race on a \u2018level playing field\u2019 of sorts.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving riders form different spectrums compete against each other keeps every location interesting. For technical tracks I\u2019ll have an advantage but then for pedalling tracks the cross-country and marathon guys have an advantage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Sunday I knew that I would need to build up time in the technical sections because in the pedal sections I could just see Gert blitzing. Overall that is definitely pushing me to become a fitter rider.<\/p>\n
