{"id":17481,"date":"2016-10-20T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-20T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2016\/10\/20\/skyride-deemed-a-success-r5719\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T07:33:09","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T07:33:09","slug":"skyride-deemed-a-success-r5719","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/skyride-deemed-a-success-r5719\/","title":{"rendered":"SkyRide deemed a success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Outside of Ficksburg lies a pristine Witteberg mountain range, where cyclists from all over South Africa descended; testing their mind and body on the unrelenting yet magnificent and captivating terrain known as the SA Truck Bodies SkyRide.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-47986900-1476959575.jpg\" data-fileid=\"824289\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"824289\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-47986900-1476959575.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-47986900-1476959575.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Photo credit: Bruce Viaene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The immaculate mountain range surrounding the Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve played host to 2016\u2019s SkyRide where over 150 cyclists took on the three-day MTB stage race in true \u2018Mountain Country\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Pure Adventures dynamic duo; Michael De Haast ad Adrian Saffy identified a niche opportunity to take traditional mountain biking up a notch by introducing ridge riding in a slightly more intense terrain and birthed the \u2018SkyRide\u2019 in 2015. Since its debut the event has doubled in entries and offers a new take on mountain biking to those riders looking to explore something more adventurous.<\/p>\n<p>The SkyRide officially kicked off on Friday; 14 October 2016 where cyclists tackled the 14km prologue event. As the afternoon sun showed off this magnificent mountain range, cyclists took on this adventurous playground by exploring the terrain, air and style of SkyRide racing before the official event took place the following day.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-26163800-1476959576.jpg\" data-fileid=\"824290\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"824290\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-26163800-1476959576.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-26163800-1476959576.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Photo credit: Bruce Viaene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thoroughly enjoyed the route! It was tough, but completely worth the view once you reached the top of each climb\u201d shares mountain biker Michelle Powell proving testament to the event&#8217;s tagline #becausetheviewisworthit.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals and teams took to these glorious mountains completing 70km of mountain climbing and valley free-wheeling on Day 1. SkyRide Day 2 sent athletes on a 50km adventure through farmlands and new mountain ranges exploring more of what this \u2018Mountain Country\u2019 has on offer. Many Horses, birdlife, and a variety of buck roam these lands freely; adding to the adventure aspect this race has to offer.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-91886000-1476959573.jpg\" data-fileid=\"824288\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"824288\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-91886000-1476959573.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-91886000-1476959573.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Photo credit: Bruce Viaene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Claiming the winning title for this year\u2019s SkyRide &#8211; Men&#8217;s Division is Paseka Makhebesela; racing the two-day stage race in an overall winning time of 05:41:06. Pieter Korkie chased Makhebesela and crossed the finish claiming second place and Jean Fourie followed closely taking third place.<\/p>\n<p>Christo Roos and Tanya Kirstein raced extremely well knocking up their ranking from second on Day 1 of the stage event to winners of the Mixed Duo division overall.
