The Aitsa After Care Centre opened its doors in January 2014. According to Founder and Manager, Marietjie Steyn, the Centre strives to expose children to fun activities and programs in an alternative home environment where they feel loved and special. “We take in 35 children every year in Grade R and progress with the rest of the group to the next grade,” says Steyn. “Currently we have 140 children aged 5 to 9, all residing in Kylemore in the Banhoek Valley and surrounding farms. We offer meals, sport, chess, choir, drama, e-learning, homework assistance, counselling, parent support groups and life skills training.”

“We are blessed with amazing volunteers that share their talent and passion with the children,” continues Steyn. “It is a privilege to be part of the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails. The children will be exposed to the wonderful sport and sportsmanship of mountain biking. Last year they really enjoyed supporting the cyclist at the water table. They sang and handed out some local treats. This year we will do the same. Our newly formed choir will also sing during prize giving. We hope that the event will bring a better awareness among riders, not just about the work Aitsa does, but also about the beautiful children in the Banhoek Valley and how the riders can help to improve their lives.”

For more information on the Aitsa After Care Centre visit www.aitsa.org

According to Jan Scannell, Managing Director of Prochorus, the organisation was established in 1996 with a primary focus to redress the social imbalances in society and secondly to meet the needs and concerns of the local community.
“Prochorus aims to take care of the needs of the poor by focussing on Education, Skills Development and Poverty Alleviation,” says Scannell. “It’s a privilege to be involved with the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails. It not only creates a lot of excitement and team spirit, but involves both the younger and older riders with the younger riders serving as ‘activators’ in the route activation, cheering riders on. This will also motivate the younger riders to earn their spot on the racing team as they get older. Our involvement with Origin of Trails also broadens the horizons of these youngsters by exposing them to the various possibilities and excitement that the event and sport offers. We aim to inspire the children to dream big, aim for the stars and follow their dreams.”

For more information on Prochorus visit www.prochorus.org/

EVENT INFORMATION:

An individual two day mountain bike stage race, the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails combines a vast network of world
class trails with beauty and exclusivity.
