It involved three teams who had qualified from the five weeks of challenges that started on 19 January 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The finalists competed on Wattbikes &#8211; the world\u2019s most intelligent bike &#8211; hoping to crank out enough power to win the one 2018 team entry prize originally on offer.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-35222700-1490702057.jpg\" data-fileid=\"927082\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"927082\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-35222700-1490702057.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-35222700-1490702057.jpg\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Virgin Active Epic Battle Winning Team 1: Andrew Koen and John Bos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After a tense battle, there was so little separating the two top teams that the judges decided to award 2018 race entries to both of them.<br \/>Andrew Koen and John Bos, who have known each other for 30 years, made up one of the winning teams with constant cycling being one of the factors in Koen recovering from a broken pelvis a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>The other winning team comprised of Niven Wood and Thor Hansen. Wood said he had lost 21kgs in three years through his cycling programme and believed that riding in the 2018 Absa Cape Epic would be a \u201clife changing experience\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-81297100-1490702055.jpg\" data-fileid=\"927081\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"927081\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-81297100-1490702055.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-81297100-1490702055.jpg\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Virgin Active Epic Battle Winning Team 2: Niven Wood and Thor Hansen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Virgin Active Africa Managing Director Ross Faragher-Thomas said he was delighted to able to reward two winning teams who had shown they had what it takes in terms of speed, endurance and climbing ability to complete the Absa Cape Epic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The big winners at the Absa Cape Epic 2017 were not all out on the trails.
