{"id":16783,"date":"2017-04-28T07:20:00","date_gmt":"2017-04-28T06:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2017\/04\/28\/flying-start-to-madibaz-xco-series-r6478\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T06:51:50","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T06:51:50","slug":"flying-start-to-madibaz-xco-series-r6478","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/flying-start-to-madibaz-xco-series-r6478\/","title":{"rendered":"Flying start to Madibaz XCO Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Madibaz Mountain Bike XCO Series made a flying start at the NMMU campus in George this weekend, with the organisers receiving double the number of entries compared to last year\u2019s corresponding event.<\/p>\n<p>The cross country mountain bike race was the first of four events in the series, with the remaining legs set to take place on June 10, August 27 and October 29.<\/p>\n<p>Presented by Old Mutual Private Wealth Management, the series aims to provide exposure to cross country racing for riders in the Eden region and race director Jan Venter said the opening race was an overwhelming success.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-40962700-1493364018.jpg\" data-fileid=\"947420\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"947420\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-40962700-1493364018.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-40962700-1493364018.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">The first leg of the Madibaz Mountain Bike XCO Series got off to an excellent start at the weekend with 120 riders competing in various categories on the track at the NMMU George campus. Photo: Christopher Brooke<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe majority of the riders were from the Eden area, but there were also entrants from Ladismith, Oudtshoorn and Cape Town,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn total, across the various categories, we had 120 riders which is a 100 per cent increase from last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the feedback from participants had been positive and it had been an excellent start in the promotion of cross country racing in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must say the large number of riders was unexpected but welcome,\u201d said Venter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were an incredible number of young riders with lots of talent in the nippers and sprogs categories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no doubt it is an indication that cross country and mountain bike racing have a great future in Eden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that there had been a strong level of competition in the age categories, saying \u201cthey left it all out on the track\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Venter said one element they would reconsider for the next leg would be to split the nippers and sprogs categories \u201cto make for easier riding for the youngsters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of the course, he said they were happy with what had been created.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will probably make a few minor changes to make it even better.
