Photo: DoubleST.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The UCI has restarted their wide scale testing of disc brakes in the professional peloton to monitor certain aspects with a greater view to introducing it in all levels of the sport. However, during this testing phase, the current rules remain in place viz; disc brakes are banned in all domestic road and closed circuit racing.<\/p>\n<p>Cycling South Africa continues to monitor the progress of these developments at an international level. Cycling South Africa is not is a position to change those regulations until permitted to do so by the UCI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update 25 June 2018:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">UCI Press Release<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Following nearly three years of tests, and in agreement with various stakeholders \u2013 teams, riders, mechanics, fans, <\/em><em>commissaires<\/em><em>, and the bicycle industry via the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (<\/em><em>WFGSGI<\/em><em>) \u2013 the decision has been taken to authorise disc brakes for road and BMX Racing, as of 1st July this year. Point 1.3.025 of the UCI Regulations will be amended to this effect, to allow the use of disc brakes during training and competitions for road and BMX Racing, as is already the case for cyclo-cross, mountain bike, trials and mass participation events.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In line with the International Cycling Union\u2019s (UCI) stance on the use of disc brakes during domestic road races, Cycling South Africa\u2019s Technical Commission reiterates our adherence to the regulations in place by the world governing body.
