{"id":16201,"date":"2018-02-03T13:55:00","date_gmt":"2018-02-03T13:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2018\/02\/03\/top-class-riding-on-first-day-of-fairtree-simonsberg-contour-stage-race-r7080\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T06:12:05","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T06:12:05","slug":"top-class-riding-on-first-day-of-fairtree-simonsberg-contour-stage-race-r7080","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/top-class-riding-on-first-day-of-fairtree-simonsberg-contour-stage-race-r7080\/","title":{"rendered":"Top class riding on first day of Fairtree Simonsberg Contour stage race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Day 1 of the Fairtree Contour Simonsberg stage race MTB event made for some great single track riding with many short, sharp steep hill sections around Klapmutskop, while day 2 tomorrow (Sunday, 4 February) will take riders on the contours of the majestic Simonsberg Mountain.<\/p>\n<p>Former ABSA Cape Epic winner, Czech and European marathon champion, Kristian Hynek won the 60km men\u2019s race in 2:16:52, with multiple USA champion Jeremiah Bishop second in 2:17:05 and three time World Marathon Champion, Alban Lakata third in 2:17:11.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-09744000-1517666225.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1148330\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1148330\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-09744000-1517666225.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-09744000-1517666225.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Czech and European marathon champion, Kristian Hynek (middle) won the 60km men&#8217;s race with Jeremiah Bishop (right) second and Alban Lakata (right) third.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Erik Kleinhans, lead from the start and clinched the King of the Mountain title as the fastest man on the 2km time trial uphill section about 30km into the race. Unfortunately, a puncture caused him to lose a lot of time and hampered his chances of a podium win.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-86574000-1517666216.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1148329\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1148329\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-86574000-1517666216.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-86574000-1517666216.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Erik Kleinhans was crowned King of the Mountains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ariane Luthi took convincing line honours in the ladies race in a time of 2:34:14 and applauded race organisers for a more challenging single track route with great climbing sections.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-83095300-1517666209.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1148328\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1148328\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-83095300-1517666209.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-83095300-1517666209.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Day 1 ladies winner Ariane Luthi<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jennie Stenerhag who won the Queen of the Mountain title finished second in 2:39:22 with ABSA Cape Epic teammate Esther Suss in third.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-84312300-1517666199.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1148327\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1148327\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-62657-0-84312300-1517666199.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-62657-0-84312300-1517666199.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><span class=\"italic text-sm text-slate-500 block mt-1 mb-4\">Jennie Stenerhag and Esther Suss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The 40km men\u2019s race was won by Durbanville youngster, Juan Louw in 1:52:50 with Guy de Cafmeyer in 1:57:25 first veteran and second overall and Morne van Greunen third in 1:58:53. In the 40km ladies\u2019 race it was Nikki Biesheuvel first in 2:20:26 with Karla Fletcher second in 2:23:16 and Robyn Tully third.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fairtree Capital, the company is proud to be associated with such a world class event that saw top class international riders bracing the podium today.
