Photo Credit: Tobias Ginsberg<\/span><\/p>\nWeiss lost the XTERRA SA title to Olympian Richard Murray in 2017 after suffering a double puncture during the MTB discipline. “The Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw is my favorite race of the year,” admits Weiss. “Before the start of the swim I heard an announcement about an athlete who had gone to the Common Wealth Games and was racing today. I didn’t know what to expect. I exited the water in third place, but managed to close the gap by the time that we’d reached the first big climb on the mountain bike discipline.”<\/p>\n
“Once I was back in the lead I just settled into my own rhythm,” continues Weiss. “My lead kept building. I just focused on executing a good race. To win on home soil is very special. I would like to thank Fedhealth and Stillwater Sports for putting on an incredible show.” Michael Lord came in second, while Brice Daubord (France) finished third.<\/p>\n
Carina Wasle (Austria) claimed her third Fedhealth XTERRA SA title in a deserving time of 02 hours 51 minutes 43 seconds. “I had a very good race,” says Wasle. “I always start a race with the goal to win. My swim was perfect. I was first on the bike and just kept my lead. I am very happy to win today.” Hayley Preen came in second, while Johandri Leicester finished third.<\/p>\n
