I didn’t know what to expect. I exited the water in third place, but managed to close the gap by the time that we’d reached the first big climb on the mountain bike discipline.”

“Once I was back in the lead I just settled into my own rhythm,” continues Weiss. “My lead kept building. I just focused on executing a good race. To win on home soil is very special. I would like to thank Fedhealth and Stillwater Sports for putting on an incredible show.” Michael Lord came in second, while Brice Daubord (France) finished third.

Carina Wasle (Austria) claimed her third Fedhealth XTERRA SA title in a deserving time of 02 hours 51 minutes 43 seconds. “I had a very good race,” says Wasle. “I always start a race with the goal to win. My swim was perfect. I was first on the bike and just kept my lead. I am very happy to win today.” Hayley Preen came in second, while Johandri Leicester finished third.

Carina Wasle in action on the day. Grabouw offers unforgiving, yet breath-taking terrain, and the chance to bring your family to either participate or spur you on across the finish line. It’s no wonder it’s the biggest XTERRA in the world.”

Top 10 Men

1 Bradley Weiss 02:28:55, 2 Michael Lord 02:35:14, 3 Brice Daubord 02:37:36, 4 Nico Sterk 02:39:05, 5 Michael Ferreira 02:41:53, 6 Darryn Purtell 02:42:24, 7 Cameron Macnair 02:42:45, 8 Adriaan Myburgh 02:46:31, 9 Celeste Anthony 02:46:45, 10 Michael Ross 02:47:24

Top 7 Women

1 Carina Wasle 02:51:43, 2 Hayley Preen 03:04:59, 3 Johandri Leicester 03:06:43, 4 Natia van Heerden 03:07:01, 5 Vicky van der Merwe 03:14:01, 6 Taryn-Maie Wille 03:21:37, 7 Carine Gagiano 03:24:48

XTERRA World Champion Bradley Weiss started his year off with a bang claiming gold at the Fedhealth XTERRA South African Championship in Elgin-Grabouw today (Saturday, 24 February 2018) in an impressive time of 02 hours 28 minutes 55 seconds.
