{"id":15980,"date":"2018-05-09T17:30:00","date_gmt":"2018-05-09T16:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2018\/05\/09\/rider-passes-away-on-stage-one-of-kap-sani2c-r7305\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T05:58:48","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T05:58:48","slug":"rider-passes-away-on-stage-one-of-kap-sani2c-r7305","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/rider-passes-away-on-stage-one-of-kap-sani2c-r7305\/","title":{"rendered":"Rider passes away on stage one of KAP sani2c"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man suffered a heart attack and died while taking part in the KAP sani2c mountain bike stage race in Kwa-Zulu Natal, race organisers have said.<\/p>\n<p>Christo Pieterse from Centurion in Gauteng, aged 39, had completed 48 kilometres of the 83 kilometre first stage of the three-day Adventure version of the event, when he suffered an Acute Myocardial Infarction.<\/p>\n<p>Life support paramedics saw to him at the scene, and he was taken to Hilton Life hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.<\/p>\n<p>Glen Haw, KAP sani2c founder and race organiser, said: \u201cWe are devastated about this. It is the first time in the 14-year history of the event that we have lost a life, and Christo has done the race five times before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was an experienced rider.
