The Saley family have a rich history in the bicycle business that stretches back three generations to 1916. Mr Baboo Saley’s maternal grandfather started Cajees in 1916 in Roodepoort while his paternal grandfather – Mohamed Saley – started Star Cycle Works in 1923 in Vereeniging!<\/p>\n

Saley’s Cycle Centre has been located in Trichardt since 2002.<\/p>\n

Mr Saley took the time to show us an old photo album of days gone by.<\/p>\n

Below, a young Mr Baboo Saley standing with one of the thousands of bicycles his family have sold in South Africa over the past century.<\/p>\n

In 1952 Mr Saley’s father (seated above right) operated ‘Saley’s & Sons’ from an iconic landmark in Vereeniging (image above left). With 16 children, of whom 7 were sons, Mr Saley Snr. sold everything a tradesman required … as well as jewellery and bicycles!<\/p>\n

Upstairs is the workshop where Mr Saley’s mechanics go about their daily jobs with passion and a sense of urgency.<\/p>\n

Bicycles are not the only thing for sale at Saley’s Cycle Centre … a small section of the shop is reserved for air-rifles, pellets and believe it or not, cassette taps!<\/p>\n
