What\u2019s that? Who needs a big rest ahead of a goal event when you can cruise three beautiful days and then \u2013 with all your muscles firing \u2013 blaze the goal. For this reason the Buco DR Evil Classic is the ideal \u2018warm-up\u2019 opportunity ahead of the Buco Lions Karoo to Coast.<\/p>\n<p>But that is just one small reason to enter now\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-94092200-1561376146.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1531759\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1531759\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-144148-0-94092200-1561376146.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-94092200-1561376146.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t take our word for it, Nicola Giliomee finished second on K2C in 2018, here\u2019s what she has to say of the Dr Evil Classic<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything about this event is just world class,\u201d says Nicola Giliomee. \u201cThe routes are so well designed and marked by Leon (Evans) and his team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re challenging but still caters for every level of rider which is amazing,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-45310000-1561376100.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1531755\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1531755\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-144148-0-45310000-1561376100.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-45310000-1561376100.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The daily distances for the 2019 Buco Dr Evil Classic \u2013 which will take place over the three days leading up to Buco Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike (19-21 September) \u2013 are relatively short. Day one is scheduled to be 70 kilometres, with days two and three 50 each. Not only will Dr Evil Classic riders be in race-ready shape for the iconic Karoo to Coast, as in the past, they will also get preferential treatment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Evil Classic riders get an automatic seeding into the second start group (out of seven) at Karoo to Coast.\n<\/li>\n<li>They will receive their Karoo to Coast race numbers at the Dr Evil registration so they do not have to register in Uniondale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-52495800-1561376131.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1531758\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1531758\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-144148-0-52495800-1561376131.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-52495800-1561376131.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started riding in this area when I was at school and these routes are why I ride,\u201d Giliomee says. \u201cI think what this event gets right is the wide variety of trails each day &#8211; one minute you\u2019re riding in a game reserve among some spectacular wildlife, the next you are in the magical forest and then you find yourself riding along the coast,\u201d she says. \u201cThat dramatic ocean scenery is just so special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-40904600-1561376122.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1531757\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1531757\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-144148-0-40904600-1561376122.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-40904600-1561376122.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the interest of making the route experience even better, route designer Leon Evans and his team have taken rider feedback to heart (as they do every year) and removed large parts of the \u2018open\u2019 roads from the 2019 route. \u201cOn Stage One we\u2019ve taken out many of the sections where the fire had been through,\u201d Evans says. \u201cThe burnt sections made for great views in 2018, but the consensus from the riders is that they want to be under tree canopy, so we have rerouted though the spectacular indigenous forest the area is so famous for,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-85384500-1561376112.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1531756\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1531756\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-144148-0-85384500-1561376112.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-85384500-1561376112.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to Evans, other route additions include new sections of singletrack on stages Two and Three, most notably a seven-kilometre stretch into Kurland to end day two.<\/p>\n<p>For Gilliomee, it\u2019s not so much the route, or the preferential Karoo to Coast treatment which lures her back every year, but the overall vibe. \u201cThis race is a 100% family event, which I love,\u201d she says. \u201cIt is the perfect race to socialise, meet new people and to enjoy with your friends and family. The kids love all the race venues, which makes it something special for everyone to enjoy,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-65223100-1561376081.jpg\" data-fileid=\"1531753\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"1531753\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"ccs-144148-0-65223100-1561376081.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-144148-0-65223100-1561376081.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While it is a great experience for the whole family, the riding is also super exclusive with no cut-off times or \u2018race\u2019 pressure. The routes can also be enjoyed by on eBikes and Gravel Grinders in two special categories.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bg-slate-100 p-5\">\nEntries are limited and selling out fast with only 70 of the 350 entries still available.
