Fear not (and don\u2019t even bother to try pronouncing that), this Friday 13th is going to be a good one. The U MTB Stage Race turns five in 2020 and the exclusive event\u2019s entries open this coming Friday\u2026. Friday the 13th. There are 300 spots only for the event which takes place from 23 &#8211; 25 October, and, while we could probably fill a book, we\u2019ve pulled together 13 pretty good reasons why you should jump at one of those 300:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text-2xl font-bold\">1. The tick box at the bottom of the entry page<\/h2>\n<p>It reads: \u201cI acknowledge that this is a \u2018real mountain bike\u2019 event, which needs a good deal of fitness and skills to master\u2026\u201d Right?! We like that. \u201cI just got tired of riders telling me how tough it is when they haven\u2019t fully prepared,\u201d says Michele Starke, who heads up the organising team. \u201cNow, I\u2019ll be able to say: \u2018You accepted the challenge!\u2019\u201d If that doesn\u2019t tell you enough about how \u2018proper\u2019 the riding is, we\u2019re not sure what will.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"w-full aspect-video\">\n<div><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uEX4QqJ0_cU?feature=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"text-2xl font-bold\">2. The trails<\/h2>\n<p>Tough and challenging they are, to be sure. As Michele pointed out above. But, it is also some of the finest trail riding in the land. This hand-crafted 100-plus kilometre web of trails on the Mouton\u2019s Valley and Bugler\u2019s Post farms are usually the private playground of the landowners. The rest of us get to ride it on only two weekends a year: the one-day Piket-Bo-Berg Cycle Challenge and the three-day stage race, The U.<\/p>\n<p>So magically flowey are the sections that in places it\u2019s almost impossible to comprehend how the trails were imagined, let alone crafted. Leave your wallet at home<\/h2>\n<p>Say what?! Indeed, the event is all-inclusive (regardless of what accommodation you choose), that means everything is already covered in your entry fee. Now, this is not like one of those \u2018all you can eat buffets\u2019 where you get short changed, but a full-service, premium-quality offering. Thanks to the event\u2019s amazing partners, every aspect, from morning coffee through race nutrition, bike care, post-ride beers, meals and night cap, is the best of the best.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text-2xl font-bold\">4. Beverages, hot and cold<\/h2>\n<p>Part of the all-inclusive premium offering includes: Baristas serving any hot beverage of your choice; complimentary La Chouffe beers on the Friday &amp; Saturday evenings; Belgian Beer Tastings, Hope Distillery &amp; Fitch and Leedes sunset cocktails on both evenings (including a Hope Distillery and Liefmans Fruitesse beer and gin cocktail). Hydration and nutrition<\/h2>\n<p>Cadence Nutrition provide for your nutrition needs at the Total Pit Stops (water tables \/ food stations) during Episodes 1 &amp; 2. Then there is a powerful protein punch from Protein 2 Go to help you recover after each Episode. Also, your hydration is looked after by DAY Water, who will be supplying their sustainable canned water.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text-2xl font-bold\">6. The Total Pit Stops<\/h2>\n<p>Aside from the Cadence Nutrition, you\u2019ll want to linger at these and turn them into a \u2018picnic stop\u2019 with the strawberries and biltong (among other local specialities) on offer. The dam provides both a geographical landmark for when you\u2019re suffering high up on the hills and offers the ideal cool down dip once you\u2019ve crossed the finish line. Makes for some great photos too. And, the odd bass has been known to fall to those intrepid enough to pack their fishing rods. The final touch<\/h2>\n<p>Ahh and what a great parting gift it is.
