Photo credit: Tobias Ginsberg.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tPhilip Buys (Menlo Park, Pretoria) completed the Marathon\/+-65km route in a lightning-fast time of 02 hours 49 minutes 02 seconds. \u00a0\u201cThe route was quite rough. \u00a0I really enjoyed it,\u201d says Buys. \u00a0\u201cI\u2019m used to this type of terrain. \u00a0It\u2019s loose and rocky, very similar to what we have in Pretoria. \u00a0It was my first Magalies Monster, so I didn\u2019t really know what to expect. \u00a0I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun that rough downhill was. \u00a0The weather was fine today. \u00a0We had a little bit of rain on the far end of the route, but it didn\u2019t affect the outcome of the race. \u00a0If my schedule allows it, I\u2019ll definitely be back next year.\u201d \u00a0Pieter du Toit came in 2nd, while Jan Withaar finished 3rd.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSarah Hill (Bryanston, Gauteng) secured gold in the women\u2019s race in a deserving time of 03 hours 31 minutes 11 seconds. \u00a0According to Hill she wanted to see what all the hype was about. \u00a0\u201cEveryone talks so highly of this race. \u00a0I was absolutely blown away. \u00a0I\u2019ve done Breedt&#8217;s Nek a couple of times, but I did not realise that there was more to it. \u00a0I really enjoyed finding rhythm on the climbs and the downhills were absolutely phenomenal. \u00a0It was rocky, technical, hard-packed, fast \u2013 everything you want, and it rained. \u00a0My favourite part was the moment that I crested Breedt\u2019s Nek and turned right to start descending. \u00a0You have the most beautiful views of the North-West. \u00a0It\u2019s a great area for training and it\u2019s breathtakingly beautiful.\u201d \u00a0Samantha Sanders came in 2nd, while Karlise Scheepers finished 3rd.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Sarah Hill by Tobias Ginsberg.jpg\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" data-fileid=\"1689644\" data-ratio=\"66.58\" data-unique=\"yrnwvn2le\" style=\"height: auto;\" width=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/1081862303_SarahHillbyTobiasGinsberg.665d9b04d910def5da8aea65dc3de2cd.jpg\" title=\"\"><br \/>\n\t<em>Sarah Hill. Photo credit: Tobias Ginsberg.<\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style='color: var(--c8); font-family: BlinkMacSystemFont, -apple-system, \"Segoe UI\", Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;'>Lenre Coetzee (Klerksdorp) was on fire in the Half Marathon\/+-33km securing victory in 01 hour 19 minutes 40 seconds. \u00a0\u201cI think I\u2019ve done about four Magalies Monsters already,\u201d says Coetzee. \u00a0\u201cToday\u2019s route was definitely more technical. \u00a0The wind was hectic, but at least at the end we conquered the Monster.\u201d \u00a0Ernie Roets came in 2nd, while Bertieemmett Anderson finished 3rd.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tYvonne Prinsloo (Hartbeespoort) was the strongest contender in the women\u2019s race, crossing the finish line in 01 hour 43 minutes 40 seconds. \u00a0\u201cThe race was great,\u201d says Prinsloo. \u00a0\u201cThe route was well marked. \u00a0The up-hills were my favourite part of the route as well as any part where we caught the wind from behind. \u00a0I\u2019ve probably completed the Magalies Monster seven or eight times already, but this is my first short one. \u00a0I\u2019ll definitely be back.\u201d \u00a0 Sasha-Lee Sauer came in 2nd, while Tshidi Ebudilwe finished 3rd.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRiaan van den Berg (Rustenburg) claimed the top spot on the podium in the Fun Ride\/+-16km in 55 minutes 35 seconds. \u00a0\u201cThe route was technical with a lot of ups and downs,\u201d says Van den Berg. \u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s rough terrain. \u00a0I trained for four days, it\u2019s very little. \u00a0I\u2019ll definitely be back and will train for the 15km again.\u201d \u00a0Dirk Steenkamp came in 2nd, while Frans Naude finished 3rd.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlicia Steenkamp (Hartbeespoort) was the first lady home in the women\u2019s race in a time of 57 minutes 12 seconds. \u00a0\u201cThe route was awesome,\u201d says Steenkamp. \u00a0\u201cI loved the route, and I loved the challenge. \u00a0The downhills and up-hills were awesome, and I loved going through the water. \u00a0I\u2019ll definitely be back next year for the Half Marathon.\u201d \u00a0Alet de Lange came in 2nd, while Lianne Zermatten finished 3rd.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFedhealth Principal Officer Jeremy Yatt said: \u201cWe\u2019ve just concluded the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic at ATKV Buffelspoort and what an event it\u2019s been. Despite the restrictions due to COVID-19, we trust that all the MTB riders had a blast on some of the North West\u2019s most spectacular routes. \u00a0It was amazing to be out riding in the fresh air again and to celebrate health and fitness with all the participants.
