{"id":14019,"date":"2021-10-15T15:02:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T14:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2021\/10\/15\/berg-bush-mountain-biking-with-a-smile-r8333\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T18:59:40","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T18:59:40","slug":"berg-bush-mountain-biking-with-a-smile-r8333","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/berg-bush-mountain-biking-with-a-smile-r8333\/","title":{"rendered":"Berg &#038; Bush, Mountain Biking with a Smile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tThe Grindrod Bank Berg &amp; Bush, based just outside Winterton in KwaZulu-Natal, is back, with new trails, new dates, and an event philosophy geared towards maximum rider enjoyment.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"EmmaGatland17412 (2).jpg\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" data-fileid=\"1691725\" data-ratio=\"66.67\" data-unique=\"o4qnrepak\" style=\"height: auto;\" width=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/899660820_EmmaGatland174122.e626b57af8d0249abe2c13ebf18438c0.jpg\" >\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWell-known for its fast, free-flowing trails, the popular KZN event is emerging from pandemic-related frustrations with a singular focus &#8211; to provide the most mountain biking fun possible for all entrants.<\/p>\n<p>\tTo achieve this goal, race founder Gary Green has been crafting new trails with expert trail builder Glen Harrison, a new high school-focussed category has been introduced, and an emphasis on riding for the sheer joy is being placed on the Tour, 2-Day, and Descent.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"EmmaGatland0748.jpg\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" data-fileid=\"1691726\" data-ratio=\"66.58\" data-unique=\"9jy3zk90o\" style=\"height: auto;\" width=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/EmmaGatland0748.f484cafa29aa69b206e542c5c862f7c1.jpg\" ><\/p>\n<p>\tNew June event dates will also benefit the rider, as this time of year in KwaZulu-Natal generally provides stable riding weather with cool nights and mornings, and sunny, calm days.<\/p>\n<p>\t\u201cOur events are for every level of rider,\u201d says Green. \u201cWe have something for riders who like to race. We have something for social riders, for couples, for groups, for families, anyone who loves riding. But most of all, we are a mountain bike event for mountain bikers who just want to have fun. That is our ambition moving forward, to put the fun back into cycling and offer a mountain bike experience that leaves you smiling after the two or three days of riding.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"EmmaGatland0960.jpg\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" data-fileid=\"1691727\" data-ratio=\"66.58\" data-unique=\"rtyh9itve\" style=\"height: auto;\" width=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/EmmaGatland0960.6766cc904789263825f253a092ff6e14.jpg\" ><\/p>\n<p>\tRiders who enter the 2022 Berg &amp; Bush can choose from four events &#8211; three rides and one two-day trail run. The options are the Tour, the Trail Run which forms part of the Tour, the 2-Day, and The Descent.<\/p>\n<p>\tThe Tour and the Trail Run take place at the same time, allowing participants to enter as a Happy Couple &#8211; one partner runs while the other rides. The winning Happy Couple (the team with the best overall time) will win the incredible prize of a stay at ultra-luxurious Nambiti Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. Participants in the Trail Run will run 15km and 10km, while the \u201cthird day\u201d consists of a champagne breakfast and riverside yoga session.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"EmmaGatland16613.jpg\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" data-fileid=\"1691729\" data-ratio=\"66.67\" data-unique=\"9eeumcovw\" style=\"height: auto;\" width=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/EmmaGatland16613.dcaff45548e8c12ce1236f1017774860.jpg\" ><\/p>\n<p>\tThe major shake-up in the festive 2-Day ride is the introduction of the Bushbaby category.
