Wahoo Fitness Introduces KICKR SNAP Smart Cycling Trainer

By Press Office · 35 comments

Wahoo Fitness, the leader in workout apps and smartphone connected fitness devices, is pleased to announce the KICKR SNAP, a connected cycling trainer that is easy to use. SNAP connects seamlessly with smartphones, tablets and computers, giving the user full control over pedalling resistance and provides a reliable power measurement so users can monitor and adjust intensity.

KICKR SNAP is designed to work with training platforms like Zwift and TrainerRoad that make riding indoors more competitive, interactive, convenient, and fun. Users can choose the Wahoo Fitness app or from a number of third-party apps to ride a virtual course with friends or perform a structured, power-based workout to achieve their fitness goals.

KICKR Snap will be available October 2015 at select specialty retailers and WahooFitness.co.za for R12,999.

Using ANT+ and Bluetooth 4.0 technology, KICKR SNAP connects wirelessly to Apple, Android and Windows platforms, so you can conveniently capture all of your important ride data. Further, Wahoo’s full line of sensors and devices, like the TICKR X Workout Tracker, can easily be integrated to record heart rate and cycling cadence.

“When we introduced our first KICKR trainer in 2012, we redefined the trainer category by offering the first iPhone powered cycling trainer,” said Chip Hawkins, CEO of Wahoo Fitness. “The KICKR SNAP is a descendent of our gold standard KICKR, and provides similar features but is easier to use, so users of all abilities can stay fit year round.”

SNAP features a wheel-on design, so users can easily attach a bicycle of almost any type. Weighing 38 pounds, SNAP provides a smooth and stable ride, and is designed to keep its feet firmly planted on the floor so you can ride with confidence. Thanks to a unique flywheel, SNAP has been engineered to replicate the inertia experienced when riding outdoors, providing the highest inertia of any smart trainer on the market and unmatched wattage at any speed.

Any long-term Kickr SNAP reviews?

Looking at getting one, but currently only have an MTB bike. I suspect I will have to buy a new road tyre.

Anyone who has some experience with it, would be appreciated. I am not anything more than a weekend MTB warrior. Just want to get fitter from home, without fuss. And without major outlay.

We are using a Snap 2 for the past month or so, with a MTB fitted with MICHELIN Wildrun Slick.

So far so good, enjoying the Rouvy rides etc.  (Also as w-e warriors :)

Hello JK7,

Our team is happy to answer any questions and feel free to reach out to us.

Important things to keep in mind when buying this for your MTB specifically is:

* You need a through axle adapter kit if you are not using a QR. This adds about R1500 to your purchase

* The SNAP is not boost compatible

* A Slick tyre is recommended on a "wheel on" trainer. Nobs does make some noise.

Cheers!

Thanks man. I will let you know if I need any info. Going to try source a cheap rear wheel with a slick + 11 speed cassette and will take it from there.

Hi, if you get one, just check the plugs as well.  Mine had "foreign" plugs, but fortunately I had a Botswana adaptor.

Are there any original Snap users out there.?

Is it a unit still worth considering.? (at the right price)

Or would one be better off with a Snap 2 or something else that's newer.?

Can only comment on the Snap2

Served me well for 1300km so far. I am hobbyist at best. I am not concerned with needing to calibrate every ride or have power accuracy a small % out.

With a trainer or road tyre it is not noisy either. Would recommend it

Same here, but with harder lockdowns and harsher weather looming, I thought something like Zwift etc could add some more value to the IDT experience, so looking for a good budget friendly option.

Spotted an original Snap and was wondering if it was worth looking at.?

It’s built like a tank, so it will last. And since it is wheel on, there are no issues with axel compatibility. You can’t use the kickr climb though, so if that’s something you envision in the future, get a snap2. Otherwise the snap1 is great

Looking for budget access to online riding, kickr climb probably doesn't feature on my list of needs. LOL

I guess most important re Snap 1 is software/compatibility issues and  any other 1st gen gremlins.
